CEP 2.3 - Transparent Doors?
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:00:10 am »

I've been building a lot lately with the newest CEP (v2.3), and I often come across entries in the door appearance list for transparent doors. I tried them out in-game tonight, and they have the same white backgrounds as they do in the toolset. Everything else about these doors is normal... except for them not really being transparent after all.

Is there something else I need to do, to get the white parts to appear transparent... or are these doors actually supposed to be works in progress, and simply not yet fully implemented?

I checked it out, it's white for me in-game too. What video card are you using? I'm using nVidia.

I posted the bug to the CEP forum's CEP 2.3 bug thread.

CEP 2.3 - Transparent Doors?

It may be that transparency isn't supported by door objects, or that doors have alpha channels in their textures but are set to use environment maps, and not be transparent.

CEP 2.3 - Transparent Doors?

No worries about it being your video card or mine, 420! Yours is an Nvidia and mine is an ATI. Different as night and day (mostly). Which means it has to be the door transparency itself and how it works with doors (or not). Transparent textures showing up white typically means the transparency aspect is not working. Usually, this is due to how the texture was made and if the proper procedures for making a texture transparent were followed.

I worked with transparent textures a lot when I tried modding with the MUGEN fighting game engine years ago... they were some of the hardest things to get right, but not impossible. The typical color for them was always a bright one such as white or bright neon purple. As I understand things, transparency has something to do with alpha channels just as Morikahn said... but I've never quite understood or figured out the relation between the two.

Definitely, this is a job for the CEP team to figure out. 'Posted
