good nwn1 mods?
« on: April 30, 2015, 11:16:54 pm »

i played nwn2 with all patches and i still couldn't finish the original campaign because of bugs. for some bugs i googled the problem and fixed it with the console etc but at the end of the game when i reached the last map i lost my silver sword - a quest item. and a good weapon from that female druid Elanee AND a magic bag which contained all the crafting items i had. so i quit and watched the game ending on youtube.

as for nwn1 i finished OC and the 2 expansions. i think there was only 1 gamebreaking bug - if i saved near that boat in hordes of underdark, when i load the game, the frame rate goes like 1 per second or even less. it's impossible to even leave the map. and then there's another bug if you try to be a pale master from wizard or sorcerer because your caster level doesn't rise even if you gain pale master levels. so far nwn1 was decent but from all the 3rd party mods i tried i only finished 1 - wyvern crown of cormyr. but even that mod was bugged too. first thing i noticed, there were items with invisible textures - they looked normal if i wore an armor etc but when i looked at the item in inventory it looked transparent: parts of it or even the whole item. and later in the game you could talk to your companions to make them gain infinite levels '<img'> i tried blackguard, infinite dungeons, tortured hearts and they're all bugged?

as for me i have nwn1 1.69 GOG version with cep 2.4a installed. can you recommend me some good mods which i can actually finish? without bugs?

               Techless One here; can recommend mods, but believe the bugs may be from your installation. You may wish to re-check.

* The Aielund series.
* Alazander mods.
* Hugie mods.
* Ravenloft series from Firestarter.
* ENOA4 mods.
* Marc Price mods.

Ugh.  Infinite dungeons was terrible. Of those, I love Pirates of the Sword Coast.  Also, Kingmaker is quite fun too.

ok man thanks for reply. about my installation - since i have GOG version i can't use EAX it's simply disabled in the audio options no matter what i do. i think this happens in many GOG games for compatibility? also done enough reinstalls and it's all the same. but there is a weird thing which happens right when i launch the game - there are those logo movies which show one after another right? and i have to press escape very fast when i see them to skip them all, otherwise game gets stuck until logo movies finish and can't see / hear them properly either. i also mentioned my CEP version 2.4a because i understand some mods require older CEP?.. i never tried older CEP and my override folder is constantly empty to fix compatibility issues

Apply the 1.69 Critical Rebuild if you haven't already. It's a pity that GOG supplies the game without that essential patch.

The older CEP can be installed alongside CEP2 without causing any problems. None of the files go in the override folder, thankfully.

I'd try some of the better fan-made campaigns. There's a classification that may help.

thanks for help. about critical rebuild, i already had that file for a long time but i thought it was just a patch to 1.69 and since GOG version already was 1.69 i didn't think it was necesarry to run it. anyway now i installed it. regarding older CEP - first i installed cep_v1x.exe but it asked me to overwrite some files? i did so but some of them had different sizes you know? i also placed the hak file from cep1patch169.rar in the folder but what do i do about the different sizes? should i reinstall cep 2.4a?

The GoG downloads for the past two years now are in fact ... fully patched. I've been tracking issues with these installs and its "where" the game gets installed by default when using the GoG downloader. If folk install it to their C: drive, everything is fine, aside from issues stemming from video/sound cards or not setting permissions properly. Even though I had suggested the patch up until this past winter, part of my instructions when helping players has always been to move or reinstall NWN to the C: drive first, then install the patch. I've found out that issues with the toolset and other problems that only occurred based on OS or Model where resolved then, aside from various setting issues folk have.

AFAIK there's no conflict between CEP 1 and 2, so no need to reinstall 2.4a. Just check that the CEP 1 file sizes are now the same as the contents of cep_v1x (which you can open with WinRAR).
