Damage Reduction Question
« on: November 06, 2014, 12:33:51 pm »

The following took place after I re downloaded Endless Nights III after my PC crashed.

When a random item appears, eg armour or shield, I will sometimes get an item property stating:

damage reduction +2 0

Anyone knows what this means?

I'm not sure that a 0/+2 is possible (being the rules only allow for a minimum of 5/+X) but the plus is the enchantment level to overcome the reduction and the non plus is the amount of damage the attack is reduced by. In your example, XX points of damage comes off the amount of damage inflicted on a hit with any +2 equivalent or better weapon doing the full amount of damage rolled on the hit (minus any other resistances and immunities).

Item properties take the form

damage reduction +X soak Y

which is the equivalent of Y/+X.  If your item property does not include the word "soak" it is either customized or an invalid reference.

I have never seen anything like that, either. I suspect a bad string somewhere or a corrupted file. If you see that again, post a screen shot and describe where you were (the area name), what container or corpse the item was in, and what the item was. If there is a consistent issue in the module, that information may help track it down.
