Patch 1.69 crashes NVM, SOU & HOU
« on: September 28, 2014, 06:44:52 pm »

Hi All,

Apologies as this probably has been covered before, but I have a problem. I have just installed NVM, SOU & HOU & then as I had problems with the original game I installed the 1.69 mega patch alone & then tried the community 1.70 . Unfortunately it has resulted in the game not loading either way & crashes at start.

My question is do I have to install previous patches before this to get it to work or is there a problem that I am not aware of, & if I need to load previous patches which ones & if I need to load them all in sequence is there a list I can reference? Happy to get links to previous topics if this has been covered.

Running windows 7 & as administrator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Vonconeon

No you dont have to install previous patches.

This is weird. Can you post the file size of your NWN/data/xp2patch.bif file? Should be 368 532 654bytes.

Some ideas:

1) are you running game via nwn.exe? if so don't, if not try that also write the version number you can see there.

2) do you use non-english 1.69 patch version? If so install english my patch is not compatible with non english and cause crash - but you said it crashed even before you installed my patch?

3) do you use any kind of exe modifications? ie. camera hack, nwnx patcher, HG client etc.?

Hi Shadoow,

Thanks for replying the update is nwnenglish1.69hotuupdate.exe  so I presume it's the english version.

Just to clarify the game didn't crash before I installed the patch I just had a few issues like my henchman losing interest in following me & participating in battles so I presumed it was some sort of bug & that the patch would help.

I have been running through nvm.exe & the file version is 1.0.6.4. So which .exe should I use if that is the wrong one?

xp2patch.bif size is 351 MB (368,532,654 bytes)

No modifications of any kind.

Thanks in advance for any light you might be able to shed on this problem

I see, from your post it sound like it crashed before.

Then when you install something and it crashes, then the problem is in the thing you installed '<img'>. In this case my patch. Dunno, never experienced this but win8 isnt really much used OS so maybe its issue there and you are the first who found it - can someone verify this? I have nwn in XP compatibility mode on win7 anyway and I think most of the ppls does as well, some reported the game doesnt start at all without this.

Anyway, speaking of my patch, you mentioned 1.70. Are you aware there is a 1.71 already and 1.72beta in development? They bring much more AI fixes for henchmans (especially 1.72beta - and dont be afraid of the word beta its fine for single player).
