Multiplayer Servers still popular?
« on: February 03, 2013, 04:03:26 am »

Hello everyone, it's been a very long time since I have played this game due to internet download capacity, and I miss this game quite a bit. I'm getting a new high speed, fiber-optics internet, so connection will no longer be an issue. I have a couple questions about NWN and NWN2.

NWN - I use to play Bastions of War and Redemption Mod when I was younger, are these two servers still being played? I figured Redemption Mod has died because by the time I had to stopped playing it was already dying. If not, are there any multiplayer servers that are popular and fun that are being still being played frequently to this day? If so, I also no longer have the disc to re-download the game, I assume it's not easy to come by in stores, any suggestions on how I could download the game if I am still interested?

NWN2 - I know nothing really of this game, really my only questions are is it anything like the first? and are the multiplayer games worth buying the game?

I'm more interested in the multiplayer aspect of the game than the single player, wasn't really a fan of the single player when I was younger, and I'm caught up in a pretty awesome single player "Skyrim: The Elder Scrolls V" don't really like playing to single player games at the same time. Plus the multiplayer of NWN is what I enjoyed the most.

Thanks:happy:

               I would say yes.

check out http:\\\\nwnlist.com

I see 997 players on 180 servers via my app. ( NWN2 has by contrast 310 on 84 servers )

BOW is at http://www.bastionsofwar.com/ - don't see anyone on it at present, might be rebooting though, the server is still there.

Gamespy is down ( permamently), so what is listed is limited, there are likely a many more NWN1 servers which are not on that website yet, while the NWN2 number is likely pretty accurate. That website is a community built method of sidestepping the problem.

Yes it is worth it, get the complete of both if you can '<img'>.  -- even if you don't like it, it's bargain prices on GOG.com and there are many amazing things each community is doing. ( I really think its less about the game, and more about what the PW Builders come up with which the devs never even thought possible. ) I am actually wanting to get the full combo on DVD which atari was selling which has both 1 and 2 together, both fully updated.

I'm glad to hear that! These forums had me a little worried with the lack of activity and the 2 year old topics specifically on the NWN sections lol. I'm going to check out GOG.com and probably get the combo pack you mentioned. I'm looking forward to exploring the servers and start playing again!

Thanks!

Combo is a DVD published by now bankrupt Atari and has both games, harder to get, check amazon ( and its price keeps going up, was 29 but have seen it for 40 and 60 even, mainly want a DVD and the NWN1 toolset. ).

The complete NWN2, and the complete NWN1 are the same original price even if you get both, about 15 each.

               Neverwinter Nights Diamond: currently $9.99

Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete: currently $19.99

I'm going to go ahead and plug www.neverwinternights.info if you haven't been involved with NWN for a few years.  It's targeted at NWN (not NWN2), but has plenty of useful information.

I'm going to give a quick plug for http://nwnserverlists.boards.net since I created and run it.  To help prevent spam and abuse, you have to email or leave a PM for me to get your server listed, but I've included links to other server-listing sites.

Don't fret the paucity of forum posts... there is still significant activity throughout the NWN universe (can't speak much about NWN2 myself, though. '<img'> )

Our community has taken up the gauntlet to fill in the void created by the evaporation of Gamespy supposrt.  Stay tuned and there will likely be integrated solutions provided in the the near future by members who are dedicated to keeping the torch burning. Xfire is a quickie GameSpy-surrogate solution to find server addresses with website addies also usually provided.

In my own experience, multiplayer devotees tend to migrate towards RP servers but there are other more action-oriented ones out there that have catered to the MP experience.  Just needs some trial 'n error on your part to find the best one for you.                I'm not very interested in NWN2 as of now, but I am definitely going to buy NWN Diamond edition and browse the servers that are right for me. I do enjoy RP servers with small tight-knit communities and plenty of world to explore, any suggestions? I remember one when I first played "Redemption Mud" was one of my favorites on the game, had plenty to do and had a bit of a competitive edge with small clans with domains which we would raid, also quests with the DM. I assume it has died by now unfortunately, it was definitely the perfect mix of competition and RP for me.

Thanks everyone '<img'>

I'd throw Arenthyor into the mix for consideration.

www.arenthyor.com

RP community with some element of the faction competition. 12 factions that may be able to be joined (based on some factors such as race, for example). And, once you progress high enough, you can create your own guild.

Register on the forums and PM me there if you have any questions.

A community client fix is available for server listings that does not use the gamespy protocol but it will display them the way they were before.  This thread has more details-

Of course, this is not to detract from your point that listings now are quite limited in comparison to when Gspy was up.

Anyhow, it is my earnest hope that more servers will list themselves now that there is a more tangible benefit to doing so.
