My last NWN1 Mac just died on me
« on: February 20, 2012, 08:41:28 am »

I won't play that beloved game of ours no longer. Fortunately, my memory was able to connect me under my NWN1 name, and I should be able to manage (and 'BBcode save') those two lists in my signature, as long as any forumer is willing to mail me regarding any suggestion.
I had the greatest time among that greatest community ever.
There are a few coming sequels I would have so loved to play, thinking on the fly of Fester Pot's one and that amazing Gladiator late serie.
Maybe if I ever get my brain to understand how to reboot under window...
I'm going to move to NWN2, mostly because of my two 7-8 kids who already play it, in french, as true NWN experts...
Even if I can't say I'm thrilled by the OC there... but maybe the other NWN community can save my a... again.

Anyway, I love you all!

And don't forget to be indecently well.
Game on.

That's indeed unfortunate. What about a not too expensive PC with a linux install (e.g. Ubuntu or Linux Mint)? The nwn Linux client works and Linux can be set up in a way that it looks and works very similar to MAC OS X.

My 2¢, just to save you an extended period of grieving for a fascinating game.

A bientôt

Whats with Macs in France? I don't have one that has died on me yet. The old Blue G3 is running Ubuntu now. And the iMac (a ten year old now) is now my four year old's computer to hold all of his photographs.

Well anyway, sorry to see you go JML. Enjoy NWN2.

Now who will I get to harass me in French?

Certainly a sad day for the mountain bear population.  '<img'>

One thing to keep in mind, though... your kids will expect you to furnish 3 machines so that your family can run LAN games,.. 4 machines if the wife decides to join in.   Do Frenchmen get tax refunds? '<img'>

Wait, what's going on here? I thought that just about any computer (PC, Mac, VAX 11/780,...) that could run NWN2 could also run NWN, one way or another. Surely the demise of one Mac couldn't take NWN from you? Or you from us? Say it isn't so, jmlzemaggo...

I see there is a way to reboot my new home computer on windows, only... it's complicated, and knowing me as I do after all these years...
But who knows, if FP or Fallyn Rayne ever come up with some NWN births again...
The new Intel Macs play a very few games, unless they're being used as a PC. Luckily enough NWN2 is one of them. I never thought a newer stupid box full of electronics would be the one braking the enchantment...  after a former one bringing it to my life.
We'll see.

Au plaisir, et avec toute ma tendresse.

That's what happens when you attempt to adopt the kids' toys... guess who wins? *lol*

Be very careful.  If their's dies while you are using it... there will be hell to pay.

Be brave.  If I can get the CEP running with a machine that runs on stone knives and bear skins, YOU can get NWN back in service on Windows!  I have full confidence in you, j-m. '<img'>

Make sure you get the PC version of NWN2 from Steam if you don't already have the game.  It comes fully updated in one complete install.  Everything works right out of the download.

                Hi jml,

As a fellow french-speaking (tough not french) Mac NWN player, maybe I can help you.
When I updated to Lion, I was not able to play NWN anymore either. The easiest way I found to play NWN was to download Crossover Games from the Codeweavers website and then buy a NWN copy for windows on GOG.com. The installation was quite easy and the game works very well. The only drawback is that the game is in English, but judging from your activity here, it shouldn't be a problem for you.
Once it's installed, you don't need to restard your computer. And it runs better than with Rosetta.

Some informations about the installation process can be found here . And feel free to ask if you have any questions.

If you still have the french version, you can just copy over the dialog.tlk and dialogf.tlk files from the nwn directory to your new installation, then at least the dialog will be french. The voice packages from the data/ dir could be copied over, too, but I am not sure it that works without other tweaks.

Greetings
Skildron

Thanks for the tips, I'd see about that.
I like to play NWN in english, it makes it more unreal to me.
I'm currently playing with my kids NWN2 in french, and it's not so dreamy. Graphics are amazing but that OC story is quite a bore...
