Traps radial menu not working?
« on: December 10, 2011, 09:34:37 am »

               Hi all,

I installed NWN 1 Gold on a new win7 box and updated to 1.69. I haven't played in years. I've forgotten most stuff about the game. I just wanted to play. So I dug out an old epic build of mine (monk 20 / clr 17 / asn 3) and rebuilt him up to lvl 15 in the halls of training. I've done a couple of minor hacks, like skipping NWN and SoU with codewords (I want to play HotU), some memory / cpu tweaks, etc.  Everything is working perfectly, except one small problem: When I right click a trap the radial menu is greyed out and when I click on a menu item the menu goes away and nothing happens?

Is this a known bug? Is there a work around? Did I make a mistake in building my guy? I can set a trap no problem. But, I can't disarm or recover them, although I am spotting them. And it's not a DC check that I'm failing. I can't even recover traps that I set.

Like I said, the menu is greyed out and nothing happens when I click on it (other than the menu closes).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankx '<img'>

Make sure you are Rclicking on a suitable potion of the trap to bring up the menu.  Depending on how the elevations and tileset is designed sometimes the trap can be conceled by placeables, x-y-z orientation, etc.

It's only a known bug on YOUR configuration.  As long as you took at least 1 rank in Disable Trap skill regardless of class, the trap management radial will appear in all its glory.

What would I do?  Backtrack to determine the cause as it (the gliche) may eventually express itself in other areas than just with disabling traps.  It only takes a single corrupted file (via read error) to screw up your game.  But let us not jump to conclusions yet....

Not sure what you mean by "rebuild" your toon.  Did you de-level then re-level the existing bic or start from scratch from a text build? If not completely new toon file... build a new rogue character.  Try out in a few different modules.

Actually, I would make a tiny module, place a few traps.  It's just faster and will assure the module matches the version you have installed.  Your choice, though.

Make sure to temporarily move all/any haks/overrides to a discrete folder and try the original module with the saved bic (if you have it) and a new one.

Worst case scenario... clean uninstall/reinstall the commercial (unpatched) version, test traps, then patch & test again. If all works, then move the haks back and pray.

Good luck, amigo!

Yeah, the critical thing I don't see mentioned in the OP about the older build is how many ranks of Disable Trap does he have at the level he is being tested him at? If no skill points have been spent on the skill, the menu will be grayed out.

BTW, The Halls of Advanced Training has a rogue training ground.

I got it figured out. If anybody else runs in to this problem: Some how (not sure how) I managed to corrupt his .bic file? Solution= Delete and make new (in the halls of training in this case). Problem solved.

'never heard of it, but something MrZork mentionned calls for playing.
Those Characters builders modules are my kids favorites.
Thanks from them.
