Good recent modules.
« on: March 28, 2011, 09:23:46 pm »

I was here when the Aielund Saga was released. I followed the complex plot of the Almraiven module and loved the shadewood sequel. I played the classic modules of this great game. And  I left for a time. Now I've come back to the Vault, and there seems to be a different age, where new modules are not of the same quality. It seems like NWN1 is dying. Am I just blind? Can someone reccomend me a relatively recent module of very high quality? Is there future to this community?

We're all dying, only that's up to you to be in a hurry. NWN likes taking its time I would say?
There is that one Prophet saga in my signature you might enjoy if you liked Aielund and Shadewood.
StefanGagne, of course.
Better if you read this & also The Best Module in your opinion is...

Now, talking about new blood... there is that guy I'm checking out right now, a thrill I haven't been experiencing for a long time:

Better than good: evil, ManiacalEvil...
Good riddance!

I'll 2nd the "Prophet" series recommendation. It is a must-play. Another newer module that I am currently playing is "Agrenost - Beneath the Cobbles". I am very impressed with what I have experienced thus far. Check it out.

The game is 9+ years old... a lot of people have moved on to be replaced by newcomers who are still learning the craft of great module building.

One of the things that keep this 9+ year old game alive is it's adaptability.  Stroll around a rural area in the original campaign, then do the same in Lord of Worms PW "Arbor Falls" and marvel at what talented fans can do.
Newer games may have more whistles and bells, but you need a professional team to produce an extensive module.  NWN allows a single modder to create a full-sized mod in a reasonable amount of time.  This is a big factor in the game's longevity.

Well I'm no "new commer" but I've only recently indulge myself into the wonders of the toolset. I'm only 15, and the first time I played the game I think I was 11? Maybe 10. By then the game had already been out for about 4-5 years of course. My step father introduced me to the game, and the OC gave me hours of enjoyment. It was about 2 years before I ever completed the game though.

I was completely unaware of the many modules people had made. But I used to mess around with the toolset and sucked at it. Its only probably a year ago since I downloaded my first 3rd party module. Since then, I've only become an even bigger fan of NWN. My  Mum wonders how this single game keeps me on for hours.

Simple, its not a game. Its an engine. Too me it is at least. The OC is only a *demonstration* as to what the toolset can do. You even look at the back cover, read it and it mostly talk about how revolutionary the game is for letting the players *create* all these modules. People change the gameplay significantly from OC. Like the rogue modules, such as Rogues of Quinn. it introduced to me a completely differernt way of playing the game. People mod the game, bring in new equipment etc. Design new areas and with it, design new worlds.

As for the question of, "Is NWN dying?" the answer depends on your preception of when something is dying. From my preception, no its not dying. But it will get there soon enough. From another point of view, a game starts to die once it is off the market, as NWN has been for ages. NWN is rare, (I should know, i've been looking for diamond edition for months. God I want those expansions so bad)

Amazon.co.uk sells many copies of the deluxe editions which contains all expansions.

If you're looking for "Good recent modules" then there is Tales of a Forgotten Realms. There are three modules so far and they are quite recent:

The team are also working on a big open ended module that is to be released soon.

There is also The Mystic Journey saga which are quite recent:

A spin-off series called Kingdoms at War is in the making and aims to give the player total freedom to do what they want. They can even become a vampire in it. NPCs sleep and venture to other areas and the module is said to be at least 15 hours long.

There's also this TBD mod:
