Help with NWN multiplayer
« on: November 07, 2010, 11:04:32 pm »

Hi guys, I just bought NWN on GOG.com and I am loving it.

I had a quick look at the server browser and was amazed to see a very active community playing. This game is, what? 7 years old or something?

Anyway, I haven't attempted to connect to a multiplayer game yet. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good guide to getting started with NWN online play?

Thanks all.

First step would be to make sure you have CD keys for online play.  The original download from GOG come with generic keys that will not work for online play.   the following link is for instructions on how to get CD KEYS for online play.

As far as servers go. Pick one and try it.  I am sure pleanty of other players will also and server Admins will Suggest the ones they like in this thread.

Even outside of online play there is also many Single Player modules free for download from the vault.

Hall of Fame

Welcome to the community,
There are hours and hours of play left in this game even for the ones that have been playing it years on end.

Welcome to NWN multiplayer BattleWeapon7 !!

You've come to the right place!

I have some suggestions for good online servers for you to join on my Xfire guild page for NWN1 players.
http://www.xfire.com...s/superfly2000/

Note that thoose are mostly roleplay servers but they still vary a bit and also what player really do on them also varies a bit.

If you're looking for more like action servers there are also many such.

On the other hand...if you are just looking for doing a multiplayer game with a buddy or so that is also easy.

In any case...you could get Xfire and add me there. I will be happy to communicate with you (when I have the time) to explain everything in detail. My username there is "superfly2000". See you!

(Also MSN is good in worst case or even Skype - Send me a PM if you need thoose)

I made a mammuth post on GOG's forums about multiplayer not long ago:
http://www.gog.com/e...n_general/post1

Again...assuming that it is online servers you want to play at....

If not...ignore almost everything I said...except that you can still use Xfire and I could still to help you out live.

Greetings BW7 and welcome, once you have settled in you will slowly come to understand the magnitude of your question. This one game covers a huge variety of of play styles from action to role playing and everything in between. If you ask a hundred NwN players what the perfect server would be you will probably get a hundred different answers and the beauty of this game is that they would all be correct.  These and the earlier Bioware forums have seen eight years of fascinating debate on the subject and we are no closer to the answer now than we were back then but it keeps us entertained.

Lower down the forum is a thread for Persistent Worlds and Multiplayer, browse through and see what suits your style of play or look at the headings on gamespy.  You may need to download some "hak" files with additional content from NWVault and add them to your game's hak folder in order to play on many worlds.

If, having tried all the worlds available you are still not satisfied then you can always open up the toolset and start building your own!  Welcome to NwN, the only game you will ever need. '<img'>
