You don't have to install it if you just need a web status page of your server. If you however want more faster updated information it is recomended to install it.
X-Fire has a webb status page for every running server (registered on gamespy) I think.
Here is a link to our server for example:
http://www.xfire.com...51.20.182:5121/
You could pretty much just change the IP number in that adress to get it to display your server instead.
Note that this is not exactly live as it is probably 5-10 minutes late information as it is a webb page after all...and information is gathered from Gamespy.
However inside X-Fire, if you do install it, there is a server browser. Pretty much like the one Gamespy has and that one is much faster in the updating...as close to live monitoring as you can get probably.
I would recomend you getting X-Fire. It is an excellent application.
Also I got almost 300 people registered in my NWN1 community over there (see my X-Fire NWN1 community page in my signature...you dont need to have X-Fire installed to view that as well).
Hmm...I actually feel we already had this conversation in another thread. Maybe you didn't understand how to get your server to display there. Hope the above description helps then....
