OK so I just found out that the forums at the "Official NWN/NWN2 site are now closed and the site is pretty much a wasteland  'Posted. I knew something was up when I could no longer find premium mods for sale by BW a ways back (thank the gods for the Vault). So needless to say I came here by reading one of the posts that indicated many of the NWN people had moved to this forum. I read a question there that rang in my head and I saw no answer. The question was how will this effect online play? I know of several great fan sites that have excellent servers but I found the question compelling and so I ask the same. Does anyone know what the future really has in store for NWN and NWN2 players??'Posted

Thanks ahead of time and thanks for this community tuked away here in the hidden halls of EA!! Glad I found it!!'Posted

As long as there's a decent crowd logging in, I assume there's not much to worry about as far as closing down online play. I also think that you could still connect to servers via ip address even if Gamespy removed NWN1 from it.Welcome, btw. '<img'>

I reckon, given the people who are still active on these forums, and the number of servers with people in it that I saw this morning, that online play will linger for a while yet.  If gamespy ever removed NWN1, there will be other player-matching sites out there, and if all else fails, there is, as Jen indicated, direct connect.

Its possible that NWN will fade with time, since finding a copy in a store is near impossible these days.  The newly announced "Neverwinter" game that is said to launch in 2011 might affect slightly also.  Still, online play probably still has many years ahead of it, and as a fan who have long ago fell into the addiction of this game, will continue playing online as long as others are.

So I loaded up Diablo2x earlier today, and there are.... 50,000+ people playing.  I wonder how many people are playing the original version?  I think as long as we can figure some method of organizing things, there will be players.

Edit: as of this edit, there are 166 people still playing Diablo.  A game released in 1996.

               To the OP:
It is not closed at all. It is right here:
http://nwn.bioware.com/
It is not a wasteland at all. There is still a LOT of info about NWN over there.

Only the forums where locked and new ones where created here (this one you're looking at).

So no need for unnecessary drama.

Sorry Superfly, you are right I didn't mean to make it sound so strong but I am a bit dissapointed in the situation. I recently bought HellGate London and was bumbed to find that online play was gone because of game studio/corp conflicts. It doesn;t bode well for gamers. And you are also right about ther being an abundance of info there. I never would have found this place if it wasn't for the bioware site. I have been a member there since the early days of NWN. Anyway didn't mean to touch a nerve for you! As far as unecessary drama. For a game like NWN/NWN2 community is everything and my concern is not drama. It's simply very strong concern from someone who has played the game for many years!'Posted As far as o nly the forums, several links no longer work over there so you can understand my concern, I hope.

Hm, that's true. I imagine if it ever went down, we'd all just migrate to the NWN Connections website.

Sorry Superfly,

No problems man. I didn't mean it like that. No need for an apology at all.

Just ask any of your questions in this forum and you will see that the community is still very helpful. We need to "build up" theese forums anyway to contain more or less the same info as the old one....but of course better and more current....so ask away....

NWN will thrive and survive far into the future, unless.....

1) A better NWN is made... (highly doubtful here.)
2) The game induces a bug that is unfix-able (Hasn't happened many years later)
3) The game was unplayable on newer Operating Systems (Is playable on Windows 7)

I still see a great interest in NWN, maybe not 1/2 of what it use to be, but there are still many players playing online, and many more playing offline, because you can't see everything, and the # of offline players may very well be in the many thousands... (over 20,000 I'd say)

NWN Is a fantastic game, all in all, and because of the horrendous amount of custom content & user created modules, there is a lot to play / use that has yet to be used / played by many still yet...

It's like a never ending adventure game, with countless worlds (modules) to explore...

It would probably take someone well over 10 to 15 years to explore all of the modules out there...

What game compares to that single fact?
