Anyway...I found out that you can actually buy and download the game from a site called Gametap. (( http://www.gametap.com/ )) Now I haven't tried this myself and it is a little complicated because you have to sign up for subscription that costs 10$ per month. What would be nifty of course would be to download NWN1 (and NWN2 if you really must) and then cancel the subscription.

Not to be a wet blanket because it does seem like a plausible strategy...

But check out the specs

Minimum of broadband and no guarantee all games will run with 64-bit systems.
Besides that, assuming they sponser the installation through their own server, I'm betting customizations like CEP & PRC will not be integrated, which will limit much of the on-line experience.

Like you, I haven't a clue as to how they ACTUALLY provide their game service. Even the prices for ownership seem pretty steep compared to what you can get on eBay, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. Though as you've noticed, NWN is conspicuously missing from the list of offerings.

               I can see that availability will eventually be problem if the game is not updated to run on the latest versions of Windows and DirectX, as eventually it could fade away due to lack of support. The deluxe edition can be purchased here in the UK from Amazon for £4.41, it is advertised as being for "Windows XP". I may buy it just to have it on DVD as I still have NWN + expansions on CD's, 5 in total.

               LOL If anyone is wanting one, i got a gently used copy of NWN (with all expansions) purchased shortly after each one was released!  ITs got a nifty HOTU holder so all 5 cds are packaged together!  No scratches!  Oh, and Im selling it C H E A P!!  How bout $1000.00?  WHAT?  to much?   But a legend played these discs!  ROFLMAO!  Or ill just keep them for my great great great grand kids  '>

               Thanks for the info Superfly.  I looked into it a bit and I started to get the vibe that GameTap has a finite number of NWN Diamond copies and is essentially renting them, with keys belonging to cancelled subscribers going back into the pool for re-rental.  (shrug)



It's so weird that Atari never really held up their end of the support agreement.  NWN 1 & 2 games are both authenticated from EA/BioWare servers.  I was just pondering them being turned off by EA at some point in the future because Atari and EA are rivals but, really, I think NWN has always had more to fear from Atari than anyone else, heh heh.  What a strange situation.



Hopefully BeamDog or GOG.com will pick up NWN.  It would be just bizarrely sad if the game never gets onto real digital distribution.  Here's what frustrates me: NWN (Diamond) has had a million or more valid keys generated  I'm not talking NWN over the years, I'm talking about Diamond itself.  Actually, Platinum too.  I have come across a number of times where NWN (Diamond/Platinum) has been disgtributed in practically throw-away form, like magazine-sized shrink-wrapped copies you could pick up at the grocery store as an impulse buy or next to magazines like PC Gamer in the magazine section.



But even with all those hundreds of thousands of valid-yet-unused keys it's very difficult for someone in most part of North America (where I live), to get a copy.  And most of those now are going UP in price starting at $20.  Ticks me off. /vent
