Tech forum format
« on: July 28, 2010, 06:39:28 pm »

I just tried to post a "test" topic to the NWN Tech forum and never got the proverbial minimum specs screen.

Is this something that will be added in the future because it (specs) seems critical to diagnosing problems quickly?

Also, somewhat related to this action...

I only intended to post a test and found out there was no way to delete the post afterwards.  Huh?  What happened to the delete function on the edit screen?

So in order to give the test post some value I just inserted an abbreviated list from the nwconfig.ini, but as I remember it from the legacy forum, the spec requirements were even more extensive than what the config lists.

Can someone please explain how the Tech Forum is supposed to function in this new venue? Or am I the only space cadet on the flight?

Thanks folks

See the Tech Support (Self-Help) Starts Here sticky topic in the Tech Support forum. But no, they did not do that like they did on the BioBoards forums.

I second that "delete your own post or thread" button 100%. I already made a mess of that place enough, sorry, mods...
I see a little problem coming though, with a delete button here: As it seems you're able to edit any of your own posts for ever, that's also another big change as much as very strange, it would give you that unsusual freedom to delete any post of yours at anytime! What about the forumers who already answered from what you previously wrote? Not fair, even worse, suspicious...
What's once written should stay in stone, written exactly as you once wrote it, and for ever.
You could change your mind but not your words. Words once written belong to their readers, readers who already read them, and eventually wrote back, taking risks.
Even if I first found it very useful and interesting, I'm not sure anymore about that "permament edit" God power.
If you're not pleased with some book you wrote some time ago, it's too late. And it's much better to write another one, and show your "progress".
The only good side of that "perm edit" button is any forumer could update his own thread, if that thread (a sticky thread for instance) needs to be updated constantly with some new material...
I rather keep that new "perm edit" fonction than the old "kill post", but the two together are not human...
And I'm too young to be God, yet.

Would you please furnish a link to that sticky because I see only one sticky in the Self-Help Tech forum which concerns MAC machines?  There appears to be no reference to posting requirements anywhere on that page.

Or are you referring to a Tech Support forum for another game entirely? ''

Quite right, I was thinking of the NWN 2 version that I have been maintaining. I agree, though, I would prefer to see a pre-posting page like we had on the BioBoards. I'll try to put up a similar  "Self-Help" sticky topic here in the NWN 1 forums as well over this weekend.
