nwn1 on Surface Pro/windows 8 help!
« on: September 18, 2013, 04:53:44 pm »

                I see on YouTube a video playing nwn on Surface but when I transferred it from Window 7 laptop to Surface it crashed game after main menu select play.
Also if I try to start toolset I get an error"unable to Create 3d preview" and then it crashes game.
I've tried every compatability version and it is 1.69 version.
I reinstalled the critical rebuild.
Any suggestions?  Anyone else get it going?

               You can't transfer a working setup in Windows because you don't add the needed entries to the Registry System.  You have to perform an Install, and the install or launcher is probably going to complain that your tablet's graphics is inadequate.

               For the record, I have NWN working on my Surface Pro 2.  Installed it from GOG.com, where I re-bought it a while back as a back-up copy.  Then replaced new cd keys with my old ones, as I heard the GOG keys can have issues, and ran the critical rebuild.  It seems to work.  '<img'>

Only problem I've found so far is that I can't directly run a module via F9 in the toolset, which is annoying.  Anyone have a workaround for that in Windows 8?

               <giving out...>

I have f9 working fine in Win 8 and now 8.1. Don't remember exactly what I did, but I believe I changed the program folders (under Program Files (x86)->Atari) to give user (me) full permissions.

Other than that, both toolset and NwN are running as administrator in compatibility mode for XP SP3.

Hope that helps.

<...lotsa permissions>

               I'll try that, Rolo, when I get back on the Surface.  '<img'>  (Currently copying stuff to transfer over.  Wish I could just have my old machine in the form factor of the Surface!)

               Rolo, that solved the problem, and several others. Thanks! '<img'>
