LAN multiplayer help needed. Freezing co-player.
« on: March 26, 2013, 03:14:54 pm »

               Hi all,

We have been digging forums and all over the Internet seeking for answer, no effect so far. Can't solve our problem with NWN, which is almost exactly the same as in thread here social.bioware.com/forum/Neverwinter-Nights-1/NwN-1-Technical-Support-Self-help-for-all-versions-and-expansions/Need-LAN-help-please-12623587-1.html Shame nobody solved it.

Same character reaction, LAN play, original campaign. Tried almost everything:
connection with cable, through wi-fi, direct ip, dedicated server - none of it worked.
Also, all firewalls are off, including windows one.
I have Vista, my bro Win7 64.
The game is NWN+SoU+HoU.
We both have 1.69 version, but it stopped working on 1.68, and patching it up did nothing. (note: we did played OC in multi, it did worked but then suddenly it stopped [around end of 1 chapter and beggining of 2], don't know why)
Our characters are bit modified, but when we backed up on original unmodified ones it didn't improve.
It's also interesting, that in our game some of my items seems that they are not in their place anymore (hidden) but they are there. Can't pick them up, move, sell. Cloaks are messed up, some of them are not named and strange number appears at bottom of the item. Price is also messed up, as its about 25kkk gold...but i can sell and but them for normal price, can't see real price which is somewhat uncomfortable...
Tried changing .ini files - no effect.
Singleplayer works fine.
Multiplayer works only for host, other player stays in place. I (host) can see him moving, changing position on the map. He (co-player) can't see his move (moving in place). Can talk (ex. with his henchman), which after changing position updates his char and teleportates, but that's all.
Please, help. All suggestions are welcome.
Cheers

Are both of your systems set up so they have the exact same overrides, contents, haks, modules, and those folders have the same file sizes and dates. ( except for the config files like the ini file for the cdkey? ) Can you compare what files are different between the two systems?

If you host a MP game on your system, can you join it and see if it has the problems? (this sounds like what you are describing as having done )

If your friend hosts the MP game on your system, can he join it and see if he has the problems? ( not sure if this has been done )

Sounds like a LAN game, but might still have a connection problem of some sort, perhaps try doing a dsl reports type measurement of your bandwidth from both systems, see if they show up as the same. Might be a lot of connectivity issues.

Thanks man for your answer. Sorry for long time waiting for mine. Kinda worked. I mean, my brother erased the game, copied folder with it from me and pasted to his pc. Works nice! Problem with connection was also the issue, but we solved it with a proper (good quality one) lan cable. Hope that helps somebody.

However, another problem came out, as we can't see and choose prestige classes. We have requirements, but nothing happens. Both in single or multiplayer. Some ideas?

               a. not fully and properly installed - ie you need the expansions to turn on the class rows involved, or don't have have the 1.69 patch.

b. you have something extra installed, ie another older copy of classes.2da is in your module, hak, erf, etc and is blocking the correct one from being used. What custom content are you using beyond what came with the game. Probably this is the original problem but you now have it synced between both systems so it's not crashing when you play on both, but its still not like what you get with a clean install.

Beyond those obvious things, no real ideas, try another module and/or reinstalling. ( these issues are why things like steam / gog and the like are worth the money, you can easily just reinstall or fix your install without adding extra work of needing to patch ) Just make sure in the end both systems match except for the cdkey.
