[Win7] [GOG] 1.4 frames per second, awwyeah. [SOLVED]
« on: December 25, 2012, 07:36:26 am »

               Relevant hardware:
Intel Core i7-930 (2.8GHz; 4 physical cores, 4 logical cores)
XFX-brand ATI Radeon HD 5850
ASUS Xonar Essence ST
6x4GB @ 1600MHz DDR3 G.SKILL Ripjaw Series RAM

Things I have tried so far:
  • CPU affinity to -2, 0, and 1. No effect.
  • Miles and RAD audio. No effect.
  • Shiny Water is not (and has never been) on.
  • I've installed the 1.69 Critical Rebuild patch.
  • GPU driver is currently at the latest non-beta version (12.10). Catalyst AI set to "Performance" and "Quality" (no idea if there's even an option to set it to "Off" anymore).
  • Audio card driver is currently at the latest released version (7.12.8.1794).
  • Game is currently running at 1776x1000 in windowed mode, with XPSP2 compatibility and as administrator.
Movies play fine (or at least the company splash videos that play at startup play fine). Sound does not stutter.

(I'd post about this on the GOG forums, but every time I try to make a new topic over there, it 404s about a minute after the thread gets made.)

AMD graphics drivers have very limited compatibility with OpenGL, the type graphics used in NWN1.   There are many prior threads here about that.  It's not a new situation at all.

               I

AM

A

GOD

Or something like that.

Figured out the problem - I originally had downloaded the atioglxx.dll fix for crashing at start due to video. Removing that file fixed my framrate issue, and cutscenes still play.
