Server not posting to the internet
« on: March 11, 2012, 04:19:04 pm »

Something weird has happened and I can't, for the life of me figure this out. Since 2004 I have hosted a dedicated server and had no problems up until the past six months or so. The game will run locally but will not post to the internet anymore and I figure the common denominator is my router since I can plug the server machine directly to the cable modem and all is well. It shows up on gamespy just fine. I know how to forward the ports and like I said, the server has been online and fine for a long while up until the last six months or so. Any suggestions or ideas other than resetting my router back to factory settings and reprogramming in "hope" that it may clear up my problem?

Thanks for any advice or help in advance!

First make sure that it is not posting to the internet,   If you are trying to check yourself, The server will often not show up if you are checking from behind the same local network the server is running from.   You will need to get someone not on your local network to check and see if the game is posting or not.

I tried seeing through a friends network and it never showed. I also forgot to mention that in the server logs it says: GameSpy Server Error: Unable to query the server. You may need to open port 5121 for incoming traffic.

Since it works directly to the modem.  It seems like that does only leave the router.   The only thing I can sugest to to make sure that you are still forwarding to the correct local IP.   If the local IP of your computer has changed, you may want to concider giving it a static local IP address.

It's still the same IP as it always was so I tried giving it a static IP but it wouldn't let me change it unless I was logged in under administrator. I can't remember the administrator password! D'oh! lol
