[SOLVED] Hosting Multiplayer Game Problem
« on: March 06, 2012, 05:21:57 pm »

               Hi,

I have a problem hosting a game of NWN1. I have no problem
joining a multiplayer game, and the game runs perfectly other than hosting a
module/game.

A buddy of mine is able to host a multiplayer game, just by
starting one up, but whenever I try to host one it doesn't show up in the list
(we’re using Story) for any of my friends to click on and join. Another of my
friends tried last night to host a game and I couldn’t see his “server” either.

UAC is turned off on all three computers (we live in different parts of the
state), and all three of us are using routers. I'm not the best with computers,
but I know my way around a good deal more than the buddy of mine that can
successfully host a game. I believe the router is keeping me from hosting a
game, I can’t find instructions for Port Forwarding with Windows 7 on the forum.
The posts I’ve read only showed how to host for NWN2 for Windows XP, and I’m
not sure if that will work or not (I’m at work). I checked “Post game to
internet” in the advanced options, and our ports all say 5121 (I think this is
the number but like I said, I’m at work).

I don’t understand why one of my buddies can easily host a
module, but doesn’t have to mess with any Port Forwarding options, while my
other buddy and I can’t. Perhaps his router is configured already, without him
having to do anything?

Does anyone have any input they could share? Maybe there’s a
link I’m missing?

               www.portforward.com

Find your router.

[skip the advertisement to continue]

Find the game.
[you'll notice they post your IP address on this page]

Read the directions.

It's just that easy!

FP!

Fester Pot, thanks for the link. It took a little bit for me to find my static IP, but I fired up the main campaign and a buddy of mine was able to see it pop up in the Story category. I really appreciate the help.

The only problem I have now is that since I can host games, I'm gonna want to start working with the toolset to build a PW. Of course I guess I'd need a dedicated computer to do that so, for now I'll just start building.

Thanks again, FP!
