Does anyone benefit from ati to nvidia in relate to crashing?

Did anybody of you have trouble running NWN on Windows 7 with ATI cards experiencing crahes, freezes, screen flickering, color scheme change, saves deletion and then resolved these problems with nvidia card?

ATI has been the more stable of the two cards until Nvidia finally addressed the openGL driver issue a few months back. Try another version of drivers? Windows 7 is rather fickle with older games so it may takes some doing to get everything sorted.

It really comes down to driver juggling in most cases.  And it is not always all that obvious, requiring some personal experimentation for each specific configuration.

Also, mobile rigs can tend to present extra problems for egaming by economizing in critical areas, in low-reliably components, inadequate cooling, etc. trying to cut costs and deal with size restrictions.

If you scour the BSN technical forum thoroughly you will find several discussions about which are the so-called "preferred" graphics brands.  There seem to be about equal pros and cons of the ati (i.e. AMD) vs. nVidia debate though you may want to experiment yourself.  If you are handy with the Wayback Machine, you'll find even more!

The base issue appears to be how each company has provided service for the older games and their dependence on OpenGL support.  One can get a more detailed grasp of which brand (and model) has the fewest headaches by perusing the Customer Support forums on the applicable vendor sites.  Here you will get only a relatively small sampling, unfortunately.                Well the two brands each have their own issues.

For ATI, make sure to turn off (or on) the AI catalyst in the control panel.  Some people have had issues with models appearing, or things appearing funny colours.

For Nvidia, their issues are largely resolved, it was staggering drop in performance when transparency items came on screen.  New drivers (275 onwards?) fixed the issue, and most people, even those with FERMI based chipsets have little problem with NWN.

There may be some issues with mobile graphics still, I have an older laptop with an Nvidia 9400m or some such and it does alright with NWN.  My desktop runs an Nvidia 295 GTX and it's pretty happy with NWN.  Both still crash on occasion, but I suspect that is due to community content rather than flawed grapics engine.
