I have just reloaded nwn 1 on to my vista business computer and downloaded all the patches and updates for the game, I have updated my graphics card driver and sound card driver. when I open the game to play nwn after setting up my character and then pressing play in stops at the barracks area.
I have play this many times on my computer even on vista? so I dont know what is wrong?

Can anyone help.

I screwed up and accidentally edited my original reply. Members: See the condensed specs to assist the OP.

OP: Check the Start Here sticky. Those are the only useful specs to aid the members in diagnosing your issue. I would delete all the superflous portion of your report for ease of reading the topic. Just a suggestion.

The easiest way to display specs that I have found is to run nwconfig.exe and then edit the output a bit to make it cleaner and fill in gaps that may have been missed by checking my hardware/driver base within the Win Control Panel.

               Have you got UAC turned on? If so you might want to try turning that off then reinstalling the game. UAC can cause issues with programs that were designed for older versions of Windows.

Also, make sure the game is running in XP SP 2 Compatibility Mode for ALL users. You can try XP SP3 Compatibility Mode, but that sometimes causes issues as well. Make sure too that you have Run As Administrator checked as well.

               How about that affinity setting guys? I read about folks tweaking that on multicore systems to get the game running. Do any of you recognize that nVidia driver version as one that addresses the OpenGL problems adequately? I am an nVidia dummy, but that may change in the not-too-distant future.

@OP: Also, just as a sanity check, peruse Shia's Win7 set-up instructions because most all of the same issues have crept up with Vista as well.

               I did not install the program in the "Program files dir" It installed in the default dir. Hope this helps

It should be installed directly off the main disc drive, eg. C:\\NeverwinterNights . Dunno what you mean by "default dir".

               Hipmaestro? I have installed the program in the C:\\neverwinternights folder? because this is the default folder that you are told to install to? If you want you can change it but I have not.
Also I have played this on this machine before under the same folder and had no problems. I cannot work out why it will not work.
Can any person with the problem help out here?

               Hi all, thanks for trying to solve the problem? Anyway I solved the problem myself, I just loaded the expansion Shadows of Undrentide and now it works fine. Sorry if I have been a pain. once again thank you all.
