Blackguard requirements
« on: July 22, 2011, 10:31:07 pm »

                Hi all,

I was playing the module Blackguard 1, which requires your character to take a level of blackguard in order to complete. The requirements, to my knowledge, are:

- Evil alignment
- A BAB of +6 or more
- 5 ranks in Hide
- The Cleave feat

My ranger has all of these requirements, yet the game won't let me take any levels in Blackguard. Is there a reason for this? I have all the expansions, but I didn't get that colored cloak patch (which I really hope Bioware puts up soon because I can't stand the look of cardboard much longer).

Sincerely,

A dude

You would better posting questions like this to the Modules subforum because it is likely you will get a reply from someone who has played that module.  Nonetheless...

What version are you playing?  v1.66?  v1.69? Other?

Blackguard 1 was released in v1.62 which means the colored cloaks were not implemented yet.  Upgrade to the v1.69 Critical Rebuild (there are links provided in the General forum topic about Bioware closing the legacy site).  v1.69 implements the cloak change plus many other benefits including not needing the discs to run the game.  However, the colored cloaks will not show up in modules that were built/released before v1.69 so I expect that module will always have the tan ones unless someone has a work-around designed and loaded to the Vault.

I have no clue why you can't take a Blackguard level if you have all the prereqs.  You should be able to take one at Level 7 (if those 1st 6 were ranger levels) with no issues.  Blackguard can never be taken before that character level. Perhaps it is due to different prereqs on earlier versions of the game or within the module?  Dunno.  Like I said, the community that hangs in Modules may have an answer for you.

BTW, Bioware no longer supports Neverwinter Nights, only the remaining community of fans do.

I'm using 1.69, but the lack of colorful cloaks seems to be in all the modules.

I'll download 1.69 again just to be sure, but is there a Mac version? I can't install .exe files. '<img'>

OMG, a Mac!  A "small" detail you left out.  '<img'>

Patches for Mac are listed here

The OC, SoU and HotU all use the colored cloaks as described under "General Fixes" in the patch details file of the v1.69 English Windows version, specifically:

"- Colorized the cloaks in the official campaigns (they are no longer all tan colored)."

As far as the Mac version of v1.69, you will need to hunt around in the details file yourself to find it, I suppose.  But like I said, any module that was built and released with a version of the toolset less than v1.69 will NEVER include the colored ones not unless they prepared their own hak to do it.  Of all the modules you have played, were any made with at least v1.69?  For example, any module using CEP would be one of these.  The version should be documented in the description on each Vault page.
