Inconsistent Behaviour Running NWN on Linux
« on: May 13, 2011, 04:50:26 pm »

               Got Neverwinter Nights running yesterday with Shadows of Undrentide & Hordes of the Underdark (I downloaded the Linux resources to install the original). I was running it yesterday with everything ramped up to full with perfect frame rate and no problems whatsoever. Tried running it today and I can't get past the main menu because the frame rate is about 1 frame every 20 seconds (navigating to Exit takes ages) -the sound works fine. The computer doesn't act like it's under any strain though (it quits instantly and my computer hasn't slowed down at all once NVN is closed).
Thoughts?

               Seems like an odd problem. Can you edit your nwn.ini to run in a window?

Settings for my big 27" monitor are like this, but you might need something smaller.

[Display Options]
Width=1600
Height=1024
BitsPerPixels=32
RefreshRate=60
TexturePack=3
SafeMovie=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
FullScreen=0
UseLargeFont=1

Your height and width should be something less than your native desktop resolution and follow a 4:3 or 16:10 ratio(depending on monitor).

EDIT:  Other issue could be processor affinity though I don't recall any problems with it in linux for me, but I might have copied an ini file to do my setup.

               Strange, indeed. If you set it up and it worked, it should not be a general problem with your system or installation. Just to be sure, did you install the latest patch (1.69)?
Did you run with root privileges after installation and without later on?
Is there a stale file in /dev/shm? It should disappear after logout, if it does not, reboot or be root and remove it without the X server running.

Greetings
