CPU Usage at 50%
« on: April 08, 2011, 08:30:03 pm »

I'm running NWN on Windows 7 and I've noticed that the game and toolset use 50% of my CPU at all times. I understand the game only runs on one CPU, but is this typical behavior?  Is it really supposed to be hogging that much of the CPU?

Thanks for any answers.

Yes, nwn is really takes a lot of  CPU power.

Odd, I don't remember it taking that much when I was running XP. In any case, thanks for the quick response.

I am also having this problem and the game running entirely too slow like in this thread: http://social.biowar...-4879430-1.html
I've done everything from fresh install, to messing with the cpu affinity, turning a core off, and it's still unplayable.
I have an HP Pavilan
AMD Turion Dual Core Mobile M260 at 2.5 GHz
and ATI Radeon M880g with HD 4200
and running Window 7.
Any new ideas would greatly help.

By messing with the cpu affinity, do you mean in the ini's? There are a couple setting you can tweak there and this site explains the different fields and settings in the ini.
http://nwn.wikia.com...i/Nwnplayer.ini
Specifically nwn.ini, and nwnplayer.ini are what you need to look at I think. I have heard conflicting reports on what is the proper cpu affinity setting for a dual core, the most recent one I heard was setting it to -2. That's what I am using, although previously I think it was set to just 0 and that was working for me too. I am also running vista, and I know there are other issues for win 7, so I am not really sure.

Also try experimenting with the catalyst AI settings. I have two machines and both need different settings.

Good luck '<img'>
