Cant read the writing.
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:58:01 am »

I may be getting old just like NWN, but im sure my eye sight isnt failing me just yet.
With the progression of technology im afraid i have been left unable to read much of the conversation on NWN. My monitor runs at 1920 x 1200 and although I change the resolution setting ingame all this seems to do is use less of the total area of my monitor, leaving the icons and writing very small.

Is there anything i can do to sort this? I need the UI (spell icons and such) and writing bigger. Im really dying to get back into this game but wont risk getting splitting head aches trying!

EDIT : Not sure if this would help, but i only ever install the 64meg graphic option, maybe if i installed the 16 and 32meg version it would work better? Not really sure what this bit of the installation is all about.

Sadly I don't think there's much you can do, save to play full screen on a lower resolution.  It'll look like garbage sadly.  You can enable the high resolution font to help readability a little, but it won't improve size at all that I'm aware of.

You can also change the colours of your fonts, sometimes that can improve readability.

Maybe someone else has a few suggestions that I'm not aware of.

I wouldnt mind playing it on a lower res, but sadly all that does is use less of the total area on my screen. It keeps everything the same size as the higher res, i.e. still cant read anything.

Does your monitor have an auto-adjust button? If so, try pressing that after the resolution is changed.

If you haven't yet, try Video Options -> Advanced Video Options -> Use High Resolution Font. I found that enormously helpful when I started moving to higher resolution displays.

Sure it will. Significantly. At least it does when I use it.

There is this very old and very simple workaround here
Saved my eyes since years now. Simply drop the files in your override =)

I have been forced by stability issues with my ATI card to lower the resolution one notch to 1776x1000.

The game still looks great, and the texts are much, much clearer and more readable. I've had a huge reduction in eye strain.
