[SOLVED]Linux NWscript Editor issue
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:44:45 am »

               Hey,

I'm running 1.69 on wine 1.3.5 and I'm having problems with the NWscript editor, the text is going over-itself as shown in the image.

As can be seen, when I'm marking the text it shows up ok, but I can't work like that, also when I type its all get wrong.

Anyone knows how to fix this ?

Edit:
solved, see the end of the topic (first page).

I've never seen this one before with nwtoolset.exe, but I had it with other software I used with wine one time or another. Make sure you have all MS fonts installed in wine - that's what solved my issues when I encountered this display bug. If it's not missing fonts, then it could still be some incompatibility with wine and your graphics adapter or drivers, or something that can be changed in wine's settings.

Sorry I cannot give more specific help.

Greetings

Thank you Skildron, I've tried installing fonts and some font fixes using winetricks but with no luck.

I've then played with the DPI, but it only made it worse so I've changed it back.

Last, I've tried to play with the system's DPI but this had no effect.

The weird part is that texts works perfect everywhere else, including in the toolset (conversation editor for example), just the script editor isn't working.

Is there any other tools to edit scripts for NWN ? that basically what I need to do.

but the PRC compiler doesn't include an editing environment that enable me quick access to the functions documentation.

One more thing regarding wine: You are using a developer version (1.3.5). I have the latest stable version (1.2.1) and don't have any issues with nwtoolset. The latest version is 1.3.6, either you could try to upgrade to that version or downgrade to 1.2.1 stable. Perhaps that makes a difference.

I had this happen once running it in windows.  I think I fixed it by changing back to a smaller font.

Nope Just tested it out Size of the font does not matter.  Some fonts just dont work well.

I currently use Courier New and it works well.  If I change to Arial however I end up with the same thing you currently have happening.

So just play around untill you find a font that will work.

Yes, that's the point. I just checked it: The script editor needs a non proportional (aka typewriter or monospace) font to work properly. Arial, Times New Roman and the like won't do, but Courier New does work nicely. It doesn't look as nice as a proportional font, but you can read all text.

               Thank you so much!

I tried playing with fonts (first thing I did) but I just didn't try the right one.

Wow thanks so much, now not only I can go have fun scripting but I also learned something (whats non proportional fonts are '<img'>)
