Reinstalling without reinstalling
« on: October 15, 2010, 12:36:11 am »

Got another computer.  Old hard drive is a slave, new hard drive is a master.  (I guess the new motherboard isn't allowing a drive to boot to XP... oof.)  So my NWN and updates/patches/neat stuff/etc is installed on the drive that isn't boot.  How do I transfer it over to the boot drive without reinstalling?  Are there some files in documents and settings to slide over, or something like that?

My thanks!

[Edit:  Hmm, I guess these new boards don't let you delete your topic?  (My first time over here.)  I see this is mostly covered in a sticky.  As I type, my files are flying.  Though I guess we no longer get the little flying pieces of paper animation.  Feel free to scrub this and/or blast me.  Cheers]

Reinstalling without reinstalling

You only need to copy/move the old nwn folder to the new destination, everything is in that folder. The game's installation creates some registry entries but are useless: install dir for future patches (a new patch... now... xDD), the number of the version of the game,... Your game will work perfectly without them. I have done that a lot of times.

By the way, you don't need to copy the game to the boot/master hard disk. It will work where it is now '<img'>
