Technical Hardware - Graphics Cards
« on: August 12, 2010, 12:47:26 am »

I know that NWN1 doesnt require much in terms of Graphics or Processor power, but I recently upgraded my Graphics Card, and noticed alot of Games running alot better.

City of Heroes/Villains - I used to have to tweak the settings to get good quality, without slowdown. Now I have the settings up at FULL Ultra Mode, and get no slowdown at all, even with 200+ enemies on screen and all the visual effects flying around.

I also noted that on my old graphics card, that inside NWN or Toolset, I would have a red or blue bar of 'hue'   extending horizontally accross my screen, always in the same place, which remained motionless,  and static, in the same location, regardless of what was on screen.

After the upgrade in Graphics Card, this band is gone. So... aditional kudos to me I guess.

Anyway, Im interested to hear what everyone uses as far as graphics Cards go, feel free to add in info about your Processor if you want.

Processor: Athlon X2 64Bit   6400 -   3.2 Ghz Dual Core Processor
Graphics Card Was: NVidia GeeForce 8500GT
Graphics Card Now Is: NVidia GeeForce GT 240     (Was going to go for the 250, but it requires an additional lane beside the PCI Express slot, wasnt sure if I had the space to spare.)

All in all, my PC Runs perfectly with these in, and have not had any games slow or stutter since getting the graphics card upgrade.

Old System (still have and use it sometimes) is a 9 year old RAM Bus system with P4 1.3 GHz processor, AGP 4x ATI 9550 GPU, 256 MB RAM. I 've never had any problems playing NWN on that one and used it as a server to host our old PW on. I later used it as a backup server for our PW after I built another computer to host on. It works well with NWN for bot playing and building

My Current system is about 4 years old now with the following specs:

Processor Type: Pentium D (2 CPUs)
Processor Speed: 3.0 Ghz
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows 7 Ultimate (32)
System RAM: 2 gigs
Video Card: EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+
Video Card RAM: 512 megs
Video Card Driver Version: 258.96

That system is well capable of playing and building NWN, NWN 2, Dragon Age, and other higher end games.

I'm looking to replace my current system next year and finally retire my old RAMBus system at that time. My current computer will be repurposed for other uses. For me, a computer lasts about 5 years before I consider upgrading to a newer system.

My system is a bit over five years old and I think about replacing it one of these days. NWN runs smoothly and ever has.

Processor type: Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2 GHz)

RAM: 1 GB

GPU: ATi X600 Series with 512 MB Video RAM

OS: At the moment Linux Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04

I think about upgrading the OS to Lucid Lynx 10.04, but that would mean I cannot use the ATi graphics drivers any longer, because ATi does not support the X600 series any longer with newer drivers and the open source drivers don't support NWN as well as the proprietary drivers.
