Ubuntu 10.04 Linux Client Problem
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:50:30 pm »

I have installed the game the exact way the sticky says here. I have done ./fixinstall

When I  run ./nwn, I see two errors

Failed to Initialize Graphics
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

My System:
Dell XPS M1530
Ubuntu 10.04
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Latest Drivers Installed (256.35)

Compiz works, and so do other graphics intensive applications. Can anyone help?

Did you edit your nwn start script and removed the ./lib statement from the line setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable? You need to this in order for your system to use the up to date version of libSDL instead of the very old one shipped with nwn.

And while we're at it, it may be necessary to boot your system with kernel mode setting disabled. There are issues with Ubuntu 10.04 kernels with kms and nwn which lead to distorted text display when playing nwn. If you can use the propritary driver from nvidia, you should be fine, though.
