Decrypted Premium Modules for Download!
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:41:34 am »

*Coughs*

We all know that premium modules are now available for free for everyone. The master server is down and anyone with Internet access can play any of the 6 released premium modules.

Up until now, there was no way of playing Premium Modules without Internet connection. What was an even bigger problem for some was the fact that these modules could not be opened in the toolset, which made it impossible to fix any bugs or see and learn from the scripts used.

Well, unless I'm doing a copyright infringement right now and this thread will be deleted in a few hours and my account banned, it seems like from now on these problems are a thing of the past!

I got an archive with all released premium modules decrypted and the permission to share them with anyone. So, without further ado, here is the link to this archive! You'll still need to have the required haks to play or modify any of these modules.

On a side note, if you'd like these modules to show up in "Premium Modules" window of module selection screen and not just a regular module list, simply place them in "nwm" folder instead of the regular "modules" one.

Finally, I certainly hope that moderators will have heart (though I realize that it might not be in their power to decide whether to leave this thread or remove it) and, seeing how the modules are already free for anyone who can get their NWN copy to run, I won't get into trouble for posting this. But if I do... well, call me chaotic good.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you move these modules to "nwm" folder you also need to change their extension from ".mod" to ".nwm". Also, it looks like these modules don't have any uncompiled scripts. So we might not be able to modify them the way we wished...

Just tried them - they do seem to work, but many of them complain about requiring haks - guess  I don't have those.

None of the .nss scripts are included in the modules, so unless they're made available, fixing any of the scripts is not possible, at least, as far as I know.

FP!

It would be very hard to fix the scripts without their sources - I was originally going to post to say that it would still be possible to fix things like starting conditionals in conversations etc - by replacing with our own new scripts.

But then it hit me - we wouldnt know what local vars it is checking and on what object etc

At most - I would say we could use the modules content : items, areas, creatures, conversations etc

But would need our own scripting to cover every aspect.

Just out of curiosity - if one was able to decompile the premium module -

Is there anyway to create our own protected modules, eg: Also locked / encrypted like a premium module?

Indeed, I learned about it yesterday.

Here's how things are as far as I've tested.

All modules work offline and do not try to authenticate (all hak paks originally required for that module are still required except for "Neverwinter Nights - [module name].hak"; this one hak pak is in fact an encrypted module itself, so if you want to play a decrypted one, you can get rid of it).

I also tried opening the modules in the toolset. Generally, they can be opened without many problems, but as FP noted, there are no uncompiled scripts present, except for a few. Indeed, that makes them quite useless for modification.

What's more, Wyvern Crown of Cormyr gives errors whenever I try to open any area.

I would guess so, but why should anyone encrypt their modules?

PWs don't need to be encrypted, because no one apart from the host actually has the module itself on their computers.

As for other modules, this would mean that no one would be able to learn from their scripts, just like we can't analyze scripts of the premium modules at the moment.

Edit:

I have another weird anomaly to report, regarding Pirates of the Sword Coast.

Everything is fine when I start a new game in this module, but when I leave the game and later try to load it (after exiting NWN altogether), some resources seem to be... swapped. The captain's portrait is that of a door. Poly the Parrot looks like a pirate flag. A different piece of background music is being played. There are probably more problems like this, given I've only started the game and already encountered that many
