NWN Vault Spam
« on: October 26, 2011, 01:06:29 am »

What's going on with it? All I'm seeing are these spam messages every time I visit it. Here's an example:

http://oi43.tinypic.com/doqjwp.jpg

Is there another site where I can download modules from or even upload them too? Because I'm really getting sick and tired of seeing sh*t like this everyday I visit the Vault.

The Vault is the only place I know of keeping all of NWN jewels.
And I would never pull back if facing a troll.
I'm a NWN hero.

With my deepest sympathy for our Guardians of the Vault.
Trolls are nothing, zero minus, and jealousy a true suffering.
I pity them.
They deserve it.

I wouldn't call that so much spam as a puerile personal attack on the Vault Manager BTP. I hope that post got deleted quickly, BTP certainly didn't deserve such an attack :/

The Vault is the largest and main hub for all things NWN & NWN2 related. The community trust the Vault, not just to ensure files are virus free, but to actually house files for years. I'm sure there are other options, but we've pretty much gotten into the NWVault culture...it feels like home.

Ignore the spam, eventually the system will update its scripts and all the annoying spam comments will be flushed out. '<img'>

               There is NWN's Moddb page:

Click.

It has a lack of modules but if you're an uploader, it's better than the Vault because you get an entire page dedicated to your module and can even create a forum for it. Additionally, you can simply make your module a download on the NWN page.

Kind of polluted area, isn't it?
Sorry, too many bad vibes to me downthere.
Isn't it the same site where the most infamous Vault spammer has taken refugee, along with his crappy modules... when he got kicked out of the Vault actually, the reason why he bag?
That's makes such an invitation kind of a bad joke, doesn't it?
Fighting Vault spams by switching, or surrendering, to its very spammer's lair...
'sounds quite wrong.
If I'm not mistaking...

Two years later and the situation has worsened on the vault. I see one troll going around rating every new module 1/10. Another I see called "TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL" rating every file 10/10 and the non-existent moderators mean that they can do what they want. Of course the NWN Vault is still the best place to download NWN mods and files but the management there (being non-existent) means that newcomers best use other sites to upload new content.

I'd still say Moddb is the best option considering some of the latest biggest modules are up there.

(And I'm only posting in this topic because it's the first that comes when you Google "NWN Vault trolls")

The new vault (http://neverwintervault.org/) actually has management.

I don't know what happened to the mods at the original vault but they clearly had enough.

R.I.P

NWN Vault IGN

(Its dependence on mods to upload content and manage pages was a foolish system to begin with)

The vault is incredibly slow now too, especially when searching. I had heard somewhere that there's not much time left for nwnvault, although I'm not entirely sure how true those rumors are.

Regardless, it's looking like we might need to do something in terms of getting a new site up, at least just for the modules

There's http://neverwintervault.org/ I believe they're backing up a lot of the files so kudos on them.

Problem is tht you can't ban troll's IP and you ca only ban their names. Then again you can create account without a valid email..

I have banned quite a lot of trolls, but it's like fighting with a stick against a swarm of bees.
I don't have much time nowadays withh all my RL stuff to do, but feel free to send me any troll comments/names/pages by PM (you'll have to add me as friend) and some day i''l delete them.

EDIT:
OK, banned foloowing trolls now:
- DID YOU KNOW THE LORD IS COMING
- AdamMiIIer ("ii" not "LL" - impersonator troll)
- MUSHROOM SYNPHONY
- DAT ASS
- KICK BONG LIVE 2013
- IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIO
- TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL*
- TROLL- TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-TROLL-T*

*actual nicknames

Hopefully among them there are the ones you mentioned. Especially since this is just one troll with many accounts.

               <nodding...>

What Werelynx said :-)
Additionally, you can reach either Werelynx or I via PM on the new Vault. No "friending" needed.
Just, please, give us the link to where you see the troll/spam.
40,000 projects is a lot to police in our spare time.

Note: On the new vault we *can* and *do* ban by IP and require valid emails to register.

IGN has put some code in place to break my automatic backup of new projects on the old Vault, so we only have a solid backup through last July (more than 40,000 projects), so I *highly* recommend adding new projects to the new vault. That said, *posting* the legacy projects on the new Vault from our back up is on a back burner at the moment, so the only ones getting migrated are the projects people care enough to migrate on a volunteer basis.

Edit: the "Troll-Troll" brothers are hammered.

<...and pointing>

               @werelynx

I think they're all the same user. With the exception of "Adam MiIIer" the rest all have their names in all caps (which for me is proof enough they're the same people especially when they write like this "hello there. nice going", not using capital letters or ending their sentences in full stops, it's clear it's the same person).

This Kick Bong guy has been on the Vault since 2010 trolling (at least I saw him then, he might have been there for longer) and is responsible for those crappy troll mods that popped up on the Vault all those years wherein he used the alias of Snapple and KarshKale to post them all.

I see there's still mods then. That's good but I guess the problem comes with not being able to ban the IP of a clearly religious devoted troll. He'll just keep creating new accounts. Still, I'm glad to see the original Vault has not been abandoned. I just IGN would allow mods to ban IP's then we wouldn't have this problem.

Not necessarily. There are ways to obfuscate your IP address. Trolls will be trolls. Not much to be done about that other than moderate posts, and IGN has made it pretty clear they would rather archive the NWVault than spend any more mooney on it.
