Help With Aielund (Chpt IV Part 3)
« on: August 27, 2011, 04:32:06 am »

I'm having trouble with the battle vs. Abbaddon, in which he and hordes of his disciples descend upon a portal in Archeron that needs to be defended.

Is this battle winnable, or am I supposed to give up and find some other thing to do?  I've played through it four times now.  Twice someone has called out "fall back!" as if I'm supposed to retreat somewhere, but there is no point to which to retreat.  It seems like such an impossible battle that maybe I'm not intended to fight it out, but I'm not sure.

In my last playthrough, I actually whittled down the enemies to just Abbaddon and one of his Disciples.  All three of my henchmen died during battle, and as soon as I lost the third henchmen, I went down in a couple of hits.  (Abbaddon knocks me down, hits me a few times for a few 100 damage each, it's over).

My last strategy involved shifting to Blue Dragon Form (I'm a Monk 6 / Druid 8 / Shifter 20), hoping to draw many enemies as possible to come after me (with AC 73 and close to 800 hp), while Robert Black, Nellise, and the Tempest actually do damage.  I make sure to distribute Heal potions frequently (I didn't keep count, went through mabye 40 or so last battle).  The enemies' hit points and resistances are so high that I can't think of any form that has a helpful special ability, or any form that really deals enough damage to be worthwhile.  I think Terinus is fairly useless in this battle, but so much goes on it's hard to tell if he does anything but take damage and attract my attention with Heal potions.

I'd like to try Resurrection on my henchmen during battle, but the problem is I can't use the rod / scroll while shifted.  I have to run out of battle and hope no one follows me, because it just takes a round or two for any of the Disciples to kill me in human form.  Then I actually have to get close to the body to do the Resurrection.  So that doesn't seem to be an option.

In Battle #5, I did my best to keep Abaddon busy in my dragon form while the Tempest pumped out damage.  The battle ended early when Abaddon cast Finger of Death on me and I rolled a 1 on the saving throw.

Got through the battle on try #7, but I still need help because- well, what's next?  I'm alive, all my henchmen are alive, the Tempest is alive, everyone else dead (Abaddon and his disciples, the Archangel and his allies).  I was expecting to use that portal we were defending, but there's no portal.  No one to talk to.  I can't do anything with the control panel.  Can't talk to the Tempest.  No waypoints, nothing shows up on Tab, nothing in anyone's remains.  What now that Abaddon is dead?

The Arch Angel should have survived (at least he did for me and my friend) to open the portal. I'm not sure if he even able to die, or if you just ran into a glitch. I'ld recommend starting that battle again if you can.

And yes, it is winnable.

Sorry i can't help any further.

He is quite able to die.

I resorted to spawning him rather than replaying that battle yet again.  I'd had quite enough of it.

He's supposed to respawn if he dies (the Archangel).

If you equip Robert with the best equipment (particularly a +7 bastard sword and as much strength gear as you can find), he can chew through anything with enough Heal potions.

If he's supposed to respawn then maybe Mystery X's override is preventing him from it. If you still want to try it, then go ahead and remove override for the battle.

Oh, and a good trick is to put Terinus on follow until Abaddon shows up, so he has his full spellbook at that point.

He didn't respawn at the end of the last battle I went through (before I finally resorted to using dm_spawncreature to do it).  I spent about fifteen minutes wandering over the battlefield, searching through remains, using tab to highlight any creature or area I might have missed, initiating conversations with my henchmen to see if they had hints, trying to talk to the tempest, walking back and forth over the portal point to see if anything would happen, touching the control panel, going back to the last battlefield then coming back to the area, using debug mode to see if there were any trigger areas to walk over.  No archangel, and he didn't come back.
