D20 DM Module
« on: June 18, 2011, 07:07:37 pm »

Hello all, just thought i'd post some progress on another side project i've been working on as of late, based in the D20 universe using D20 Modern 2.0 Haks with NWN v1.69. The module I am building is inspired by the hit police video game  "LA Noir" by Rock Star, However - the module won't be placed in the 50's instead it will take place in modern times and the player(s) have the ability to choose a campaign of Police, or Gangster each with their own over aching storyline and side objectives.  If this project becomes bigger and successful, it will be possible for players to choose both paths and possibley work against eachother (with the help of assisting DMs).

The gameplay is planned to work like this - players that decide to start the police path will start as a simple patrol man giving the basic equipment to preform your duties - based on your successful arrests(more on that later) you can rank up to get better equipment and more interactive jobs with each promotion. For example, as a Patrolman you will respond to calls around the city even if it's simple and try your best to complete them - on successful compleition you will receive a substansional XP reward depending on how good it went. (No civilians were killed, No shots fired, etc all earn you more XP) As an officer your goal of course will be to bring in suspects not kill them, so knowing what to say during a situation can be key to disarm a suspect. Arrests provide a bonus XP,  plus a step further towards the next promotion which will provide various different jobs and opportunities. Ranging from investigating Murders, to stoping terrorists, this is all in planning and I just wanted to put it out there to see what the public thought about it - this is all subject to change.

The Gangster career will of course be the opposite, you'll start off at the bottom of the rung, preforming menul tasks such as pickpocketing, breaking and entering, theft and of course avoiding the police. The Gangsters goal will be to preform objectives placed by their Kingpen and attempt to gain more territory through-out the city. XP is gained from successful operation completion(stealing and geting away with it etc) and XP can be Lost, by geting arrested. There will be just as much opportunity and various jobs for the Gangster path as well.

Death in the game is to be handled realisticly with consequence, death will be perma but with a twist - you will be allowed 2-3 Resapawns which you will lose half XP plus earn a nice trip to the hospital, where depending on your wounds could effect the way your character performs. For example after you die, you hit respawn, you will appear in the hospital and based on a random modifier selection you could have reduced accuracy due to arm damage, reduced running ability due to leg damage and so on. Though wheither or not the modifers are permante or heal over time is still subject to change.

In the end I plan to have one huge city, with 90+ areas to respresent the core, suburbs, and outskirts of a ficitional city with street names etc. While it is possible to walk around such, using police cars or gangster cars will be the quickest way around town. Also to make it even more interactive I also plan to make ALOT of enterables. Also for immersion, see that apartment door thats locked ? Pick the lock or break in, chances are you can get in there!

Anyways I hope to get feedback for anyone interested so I can get motivation to continue my work - so I can host a server in the future. Otherwise don't want to waste my time, thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a great day! 'B)'

I haven't played "LA Noir" so I don' t know exactly how gameplay works but your idea sounds interesting.  I always wanted to experience the same living "huge" city effect as in the GTA games but in NWN, including radio stations.

If it uses D20 modern content, you have my support!
