Undermountain level 2
« on: March 06, 2011, 06:46:30 pm »

               Hi,

There are 4 areas separated from the rest, that seem to be impossible to get to. I've walked around with Tomi looking for secret doors, but can't find anything. Am I just wasting my time here, or is it possible to get there somehow?

Thanks,
ZFR

I don't remember that part, but if you know how to jump:
##DebugMode 1
(presse enter)
Move you mouse where you wanna land.
Press + on your numeric pad
Once you're there check around with your PC for the "regular" way if there is any to get in that secret area.
Then exit the debug mode:
##DebugMode 0
and reload your "regular" savegame and go there the legit way... if it is meant to be accessible.
I think I remember some areas in HotU only made for designers technical purposes only...

Are we talking about the same area in Undermountain?  There are no secret doors in Level 2 central. Level 2 consists of a central "hub" that can only be accessed when the chain puzzle has been solved.  The west entry passage from Level 1 drops one of the chains and the other 3 peripheral areas (north, east, south) are transitioned by opening doors that can be either bashed or unlocked or disarmed.  But since you seem already to have Tomi, you must have at least been able to get to the south level to save him.  Please clarify your issue a bit more.

Yes. This is the area I mean.

There is actually a secret door with illusionary chests that I did find. But I'm talking about the 4 areas here. Is it possible to get to them through secret doors?

Ahhh... you mean those island-like platforms.  No, those are just eye candy.

You could use jml's suggestion to place your PC on them I suppose but there is nothing there, no loot, no creatures, etc., so it would be a boring trip and one-way at that.  You've discovered the room with the chests  (I forgot all about that one being hidden '<img'>  ).

Spot skill (rather than Search) is checked for most of the hidden access areas in the Undermountain so if you are unsure if you might be missing anything equip items that will raise that skill (and Wisdom) and walk around slowly.  IIRC, Spot is checked OnHeartbeat so standing still a few seconds may be necessary.

Are you sure about this and is it something unique to undermountain? I'm pretty certain that in general Search is used for secret doors and spot is used only for finding tracks. That's how it worked in SoU and some sites like NWNwiki seem to confirm this. Is Undermountain scripted differently?

I've just taken Sharwyn (who has high search but low spot), and a PC with medium spot and low search, and Sharwyn is appears to be able to find more secret doors on level 1 Undermountain than the PC, but I'm not sure the tests are conclusive...

That's how it is normally scripted, but there some custom ones scattered about ("most" is probably a poor descriptor, though... just the most difficult ones is better phrasing).  IIRC, there is also one of these exceptions in the Maker's dungeon that checks Spot. Fortunately, there are items that boost both skills equally to help out.
