Help find a server
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:49:25 am »

Hi i'm a PNP world gamer and after taking gatherering up my group again for PNP DND i quit WOW.

I love
NWN1 the best game of all times in my eyes. But i find alot of server i
go on are dried out and the life wasn't there as it was before due to
the game age.

I was curious if anyone could reccomend a good server or a group that gets together now and then and has PNP style DND.

ArgentumRegio is a growing server, gaining more than 50 new players each month and more than half come back for more visits. It is hosted on a dedicated server in a datacenter, is coded very well such that it has nearly no lag and crashes on average only once a year.

We have numerous DMs and are always adding more. We feature some unique tools to help make NWN closer to PNP than ever before, esp our Immersion Tools (ask about them when you visit). Details of the module are simply too long to list here, but a brief overview of how we 'fleshed out the classes' would start with the Ranger, who can track, find/use hidden trails, scavenge for resources others would miss, speak animal, rest without gear, create fireless campsites, light fires without gear, and more. EACH class has had this loving attention to detail.

Flying swimming climbing jumping and more. We support crafting, even unusual stuff like smokebombs. This is a must see module, requires only CEP 2.1 or 2.2 or 2.3 as a hak and the full nwn game v 1.69 with both expansions.

66.232.100.90 we are online 24x7 so visit anytime. Hope to see you online.

Be well. Game on.

We get a lot of former WoWers on HG. We've been the top rated server on the Vault for coming up on 6 years now. We are the most active servers out there at present, and feature party-based action play, with many areas drawn straight from PnP (I DM'd PnP for a dozen years before taking up HG). Hades, Elysium, the Abyss, the Nine Hells, the Feywild, the Far Realm, the Elemental Planes, and more, all await you (with the next planned expansion being the addition of Atropus, the first of the Elder Evils we're planning to add as endgame content, similar to their uses in PnP).

Our downsides include a considerable learning curve because of our extensive customizations and class balancing, but that tends not to bother WoWers much. We are high magic, but the server's challenges are painstaking scaled to character level, to ensure challenges for even the most hardened, experienced players.

And, of course, there's our community, which is one of the friendliest and most mature out there. Late-game content requires a balanced party to succeed, and this tends to cultivate long-standing friendships.

You can find far more information from the links below. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

I'll throw in a suggestion for my own PW.  I try for a "closer to PnP D&D" feel to my game, with plenty of changes away from Forgotten Realms (it's a custom game world) and regular NWN.

Here are a couple of links that have information to help you decide if you want to try out Aenea:
BioWare forum post with PW information
The World of Aenea website

Good luck in finding a server that you can enjoy!

               Well met!

Someone recently asked how friendly we are to new players and before I had a chance to respond you can see what the Player Base had to say

here.

A collection of pictures

We are an older PW that was completely rebuilt by a few crazy dedicated numbskulls and it seems word of mouth has gone out and we find ourselves with about 5 to 15 people logging in daily. Hopefully the trend stays to the point we soon have 20 people on all the time. Of course that would be ideal though we could handle more than 20 at a time but then would have to seriously upgrade our Staff. I am hoping to stay about a 5 players to 1 ratio on Staff.

We are based in the Forgotten Realms area of the Silver Marches. No…at the moment we do not allow drow as our Underdark is not in and really...not sure if we could handle a bunch of Drizzit clones running around at the moment. But we are working on it and Drow will be allowed soon as well as 60 plus other Sub Races.

Crafting, new spells…so many different fun little bits to see. Hope you take a look at our forums and our Site and let us know what you think. You can pm here or on the forums under the name DM Nojheim.

We are very close to Pen and Paper in rules and use only the CEP as our hak. We have swimming, teleport, deity and domains. We have Timed, Exploration and even Player Awarded XP. Heck...we have too much to list here but here goes.

Our death system was designed by a fellow named aptly Axe Murderer. His system allows it so players when they do expire have some options. They can wait and hopefully their erstwhile partners are carrying their bloated corpses back to a Priest to raise them back to life like Max the Miracle Worker.
Or in the Fugue they may take the portal back which will give them some options from taking random items, some vital xp, or gold. Guess you can buy your way out of hell so to speak, lol. You can even choose whether to go to a temple or to the spot you died.

Then our bleeding system is a bit different. When you’re smacked down by a wolf he might eat you or wander away. While a Zombie would of course dig in like you’re the last burger at Rosanne’s House. But a goblin might grab some of your gold or just maybe you gave that bandit as good as you got and he might hunker down a few feet away and try and heal himself up a bit in case that stubborn adventure gets up.

Basically like everything we have added we have tried for three things to guide us.
1/ Character Development.
2/ Fun and challenging…not just one or the other.
3/ The Player Base asked for it.

In that spirit we have installed and modified the following list of features.

Crafting/Tradeskills
Player Housing
True Forgotten realms Deity System
Spell Storing Devices
Personnel Storage
Hide Level Character List on Start Up
Rest Menu Features
This bears mentioning that lets you do a host of things dependant on your PC plus a lot of neat extras
Real Seasons
Real Time
Fishing
Actual Caravans
Teleporting
New Spells
Some very unique Items
•   Intelligent weapons that backtalk & even know the area your in
•   A Robe of Time Stop
•   A Gladiator Net
•   A Cloak of Levitation
•   A few hundred more

Custom Summoning by domains/class/race/alignment
True PnP Style Turn Undead (Heck control them if your evil)
Dragon Riding
Horse and Ponies both for riding AND Pack Animals
Pack penguins (don’t ask someone was drinking that day)
True Drinking Scripts
Gambling from Black Jack to Roulette to Animal Races
Beautiful Designed Naturally Flowing Areas
Our own AI that is realistic
Factions
Guilds and Such
Very Active Staff

You might want to check out Neverwinter Connections, a website specifically designed for connecting DMs and player looking for online PNP style roleplay sessions.

Any of these open like certain times during the week more constant dm supervision? and higher ground not a heavy roleplaying server.

ArgentumRegio is open 24x7. We have several DMs in different time zones (all over the world, mostly EURO and USA though) and depending on the DMs individual schedules week to week, we have coverage. We try hardest to have coverage on the weekends though, so that might be the best time. But by all means, visit, tour the tutorial area (aka Noob U.) and see how the systems work here, I think you'll find no better RP tools anywhere.

Be well. Game on.

Not even remotely, but you didn't list that as a requirement - unless that's what you meant by PnP, but even my PnP group wasn't 'heavy roleplay' (closer to rollplay, in truth, though steeped in lore). We do have a roleplay server, but without dedicated dms, so it's seldom in use  - mostly a few occasional small groups.

We are always open. Just log in and make a PC though people are not on as much as they are on Higher Ground, lol, we have about 5 to 12 players on at any given moment.

There is another section for posting about servers.

It is called "Persistent Worlds and multiplayer"

If this is a concern, you definately want to find something on Neverwinter Connections.

I have played on many of these servers a bit, and found them all to be interesting with much to offer.
Actually I found HG to be the most in line with my idea of a fun server. The time and dedication and depth of that server is incredible. Of course  Argetium Regio and Silver Marches are good too. I found AR to be most helpful and SM to have the most role-playing emphasis. Of course that is just my limited play time on these servers,
I have not played on Anea but it is also one of the top servers designed by one of the greats of NwN,i.e. AD. so check them all out and see which one(s) fit most closely with what you want.

I would agree with all of that. Best thing to do is try them and find the right one. Or if your looking for more of a party to get together with try the Neverwinter Connections. Some of them are really good...but like in PWs you do have to look for the right group suited to your type of play.
