Armour for Linu in Chapter 1
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:35:00 pm »

                Hi all

I've run through Chapter 1 several times, this last one with a pure rogue.  Playing a rogue took some getting used to, but was very enjoyable. I'm almost ready to move out of Neverwinter, and I want to have Marrok forge some good armour and weapons for Linu as I need her to be the heavy artillery in Chapter 2.

I have pretty much all the reagents that I need.  There are two suits of armour that Marrok can make.  I only have leather armour + 1 which can be used to make Whitebone Armour, but I'm very attached to it for my own use.

I've done all the major quests and sidequests at this stage.  I sold scale mail + 1, a chain shirt + 1 and studded leather armour + 1 to Nyatar before so I can buy them back if needed.

Which armour from Marrok is best for Linu?

Thanks!

A pure rogue can't wear Whitebone half-plate.  Rogues are limited to light armors like Studded as you sold to the druid merchant.  Eiher buy it back or the chain shirt.  Most of your rogue skills work best with as high DEX rating as possible. For my rogues, I prefer monk robes & equipment myself and with modest UMD skill you'll be able to get the Dark Moon in Ch 2.  Also, those arcane adventurer robes are sweet as well. Anyhoo, that's my own personal recommendation.  Kinda depends if you are going with high DEX or not which is the biggest bang for your buck.

Give the Whitebone to Linu.  An even better version is available in Ch 3 so save the reagent you need (a skull IIRC????)  Also, the chromatic breastplate is very nice for her (w/diamond).

In any event... welcome aboard, mate! '<img'>

Thanks!  I'm a high dex elven rogue, so that's why I wanted to keep that leather armour + 1.    But my UMD is pretty good, so I'll try for those monk robes..

The skull is a gargoyle skull, and there are plenty more in Ch2, so that's OK. I have a multiple personality approach to play, with several characters on the go at once, but more about that another time '<img'>

I agree with HipMaestro. You generally want your rogue to wear armors whose max dex bonus is no smaller than the PC's dex bonus. This will usually mean light armors and eventually robes, unless the rogue is not a dexer.

A quick aside that the chapter 1 whitebone and chromatic armors would be nice for Linu. And, the chapter 3 whitebone (called Silverbone) will work for her, as well. But, the chapter 3 chromatic armor is not worth making. BTW, if you go the whitebone/silverbone route, you'll find plenty of gargoyle skulls in chapter two. So, don't worry about saving the one from chapter one.

Heh. I see you know about the extra skulls near the east road. That's what I get for taking those extra few minutes to double-check! ;-)

I would get her the armor of comfort, the one you'll find in the warrens of the damned. It gets you a armor bonus a little bit under the whitebone armor but it boosts her healing skills.

Never considered those myself, but with Tony K's running, yeah, a pretty good choice until the DR plate is available.  The reduced weight allows Linu to haul more loot for the party.

Getting back to the Dexer rogue armor choice... here is how I itemize the potential in the OC:  +3 dex mitts, +2 dex belt, +2 dex slippers, +5 Cat's potion/scroll = +12 dex (cap) beyond your character base.  So, assuming you had optimized your elf at creation, by level 16, you would be at 20 (start) + 4 (levels) + 12 = 36 or +13 dex AC (if I added correctly).  That's why I go with some sort of robes.  Your reflex saves won't suffer but most of your Dex skills, especially Tumble & stealth, will be squeezed by armor's Dex limits.  Of course, exceptional properties could be the deciding factor, but the +4 stackable AC from permahaste will be hard to turn down.  What can really impact your armor choices is finding a weapon of quickness that you have focused in.  But who knows what the fates will provide, eh?                @cds13 - I've played Chapter 1 through three times now, and I only picked up the Armour of Comfort in the Warrens once.  My fighter/barbarian is very happy with it!   I'll probably go for Whitebone Armour for Linu.

@HM - That sounds great!  I was using the Rogue Guide here: http://www.ign.com/f...lass-faq-425101

My build is taken from the guide above.  It isn't optimised for Dex.  I started with Dex 16, and my other high stats are Int 16 and Cha 14.  It works for me though '<img'>

It was suggested in the guide that Rogue 8 / Wizard 12 was one good multiclassing option.  I'm tired of struggling with crit immunes like undead, and was thinking of going Wiz after Rogue 8 so that I can strike them down with spells if my Mace of Disruption isn't working well.  What do you think of Rogue 8 / Wiz 8 for the OC?

Still I would use the Whitebone on myself ant the Comfort Armor on Linu, she's the healer unless you maximized that skill on you. Whitebone for thanks and Comfort for healers is my rule while on the first chapter. If you find i.e. Enkidu's Armor you can get rid of the Whitebone but that will more likely come out from the 2nd chapter. Truth Scales enhance your fortitude saves, I use them when dealing with spiders or "diseasing" undeads or stag beetles.

As a rogue I'm using hide + 1, for dexterity.  The reduced weight makes the Armour of Comfort a good choice for Linu, but I can't remember seeing it this time round.  Will keep it in mind.

Oh, sorry Brendon, I was referring to your fighter/barbarian. A rogue with heavy armor proficiency is not "proficient" indeed.
