What spells are useful when nearing the end of the source stone world- when entering the room with all of her lizardmen guards, I typically have to use all my spells and still get killed. I'd like to preserve some spells for the fight with Morag and her hoardes in the final room.

Luck. That the only one spell I could advise you to save without spoiling one of the nicest fight of the OCs. Sorry.
Buy loads of scrolls or wands, wathever you find! You'll need a lot downthere especially since there is no...

anymore, on the two last levels I think.
I always found it unfair, unbalanced even for spellcasters myself.

Target the cleric first.  Any spell, level 4 or higher, should work fine (e.g. empowered Ice Storm or any of Isaac's Missiles).  If they seem to resist, use a Mord to strip the SR. If you have an Acid Sheath and expertise, either will help protect your caster.

Against the Protectors, a few casts of Horrid Wilting spread around (even from scrolls) should do the trick.  Should you time it just right and catch Morag in the AoE blast, the battle will end rather abruptly.

edit: ummm... just realized you didn't specify class.  If cleric, same spell-level rules apply but you will have no way to strip SR, no HW and no damage shield. '<img'>
