Well, I've been playing SoU for the first time and wondered why it seems to have a low reputation compared to HotU and HOF user made modules.  It's actually a very decent and quite hardcore NWN/D&D experience, and perhaps this is why it's not as beloved as other NWN related content.  I can't recall having so much difficulty in playing Neverwinter Nights & modules in many years.  The puzzles are numerous, the combat challenging sometimes brutal.  However, I am quite willing to accept the possibility that I've gimped myself by taking 5 levels of bard and (currently) six of RDD, and selecting the Recommended options when leveling.  I think I should have started taking Fighter feats when I began the Bard build because I feel like a dainty flower repeatedly picked & plucked by all the baddies in this game.

Luckily, I have the female dwarf rogue as my henchmen, and she's a good tank, but she now suffers what I call the "Special Olympics" bug, with inexplicably reduced movement speed in the last half of the game.  I strip her naked, bombard her with Restoration spells and she STILL walks & runs like a 105 year old lady (human).  I don't know what happened there.  Maybe all that poison she absorbed from spider attacks took its toll.

I'm just about to enter the final showdown with the Medusa boss-beotch. My intention is to continue with the RDD build into HotU but now I don't know.  I just don't know.  He feels gimped.  Should I just create a new character from scratch & use a level up mod to being him up to speed?  What are some other fun builds for HotU?  I'm gearing my RDD towards dual-wielding but only have the dual weapon & ambidextrous feats,

Some other thoughts:

- I play with Project Q and it looks gorgeous but I notice elongated spiky shadows on my PC & henchmen in certain areas.  Is there a fix for this other than disabling Shadows?

- the SoU expansion ran kind of choppy on my decent rig until I used an SSD drive.  Still had occasional choppiness & chug so I forced my Nvidia card to run at full clock speed.  Now it flies.

Sum ppl not like SoU cuz so short.  I like too tho, like u.  Loot is more like on PW or other CC SP.  Closer to PnP low/mid-magic than OC or HotU.  Only part not like is need to run far away to rest many place in SoU so take longer. That also like many PW tho.

There diffrence in playing optimum build or just one that work better in short module.  That ur own choice.  Even SoU not really hard but prolly hardest of Bioware stuff cept the premium which are mayb tuff too.

Bard very good to use cuz no dispel of buff can happen.  Deekin wonna curse so u could use that on ur bard for HotU if u go to play that mod. Depend how much bard u plan if song help much.

Recommend option ALWAYS gimp toon but that not really so bad.  It make game more fun to play wen all thing not so easy to do.  Bioware never figure for optimum build on there mods.  Wen they make SoU they never rebalance for all HotU new class, feat & spell so SoU shud be gimped a little and OC a LOT!

Ftr always good to get BAB up fast to hit things better n give u more good wpn to chose. But it better to take Bard Lvl 1 for xtra skill n quick song.

Try take Still Spell if haven't yet for cast in armor/sheeld.

Dunno how gud ProjQ work with Bioware mods.  Sometime conflict happen. ProjQ ppl cud tell u better mayb in other forums.  I very jealus that u have SSD but not me. ''

edit: almos forget. Many time just rest party to get hench back to normal.  Wen u look at hench screen, all ability ok?  Any desease or other bad thing show there?  Mayb she stuck in hide mode so need convo to fix that.    Had probelm like this with Tomi in OC once but rest fixed all.  Worse thing, u can killl her then rez or mayb she show up at temple some place to hire her back. That all can think of, tho.

Thanks for the reply.  Yeah, when I first played the OC back in 2002 or so, it was pathetically easy.  However, I considered it an enjoyable tutorial and getting familiar with the UI and the mechanics of the game, in preparation for the real fun - the expansions and user made content.

I checked and double-checked all the stats of my henchman and no negative status effects show up other than that annoying Movement Speed Decreased one.  Made sure conversation options weren't enabling Stealth or Search mode too.  She's just... bugged.  How can I kill her to try and reset her?  She appears to have some sort of "I'm dying but I can't die" flag set.

Try kill her in shadow plane cuz script make her ded for gud on mythlar level wher snakehead lady stay. Hench respawn in SoU suppose to happen next to wher last master was.  Am thinking hench respawn in Ch1 at dwarf house mayb specal for module but shud work like I say in all other mods/area cept the wind04 (mythlar).  Mayb u rite that her bic went corrupt.  Kill/rez dun mostly to fix faction but mayb work to fix bad effect.

I know too late now to help much but save LOTS LOTS in NWN SP.  CC not debug real gud sometime so it alway a gud idea to save so not have to redo lots.  Guess mayb SoU have some bug left too. '<img'>  PW is better debug cuz alway want many ppl there so will fix bug very fast.

Thanks for the help.  Did manage to fix my henchman's issue by doing something I tried in the past that didn't work but now worked when I tried it again for some reason.  I stripped all her items, then rested, and low and behold, she's her normal, fat, jolly, jaunty self again '<img'> I'm ready for the big final battle now.  Huzzah!

I need to start playing online again.  Getting back into the swing of things after not having played NWN1 in, like, 5-6 years.  This game is just still so great.  With the expansions + user made content + PWs, it is quite possibly the greatest value in the history of RPGs '<img'>

She probably had her movement speed decreased by a web/grease/somethingsimilar and it didn't reset in which case, yeah, remove all items, rest and re-equip everything. Similar things can happen to the player too, most common probably being a permanent AC decrease bug from having dexterity reduced to 3 by entanglement. This fixed in a similar way.

Nwn is certainly terrific value, particularly in the character creation department. 11 base classes, 12 prestige classes, and combination of up to 3 of those for 40 levels, then all the other little skills/feats/playstyles/etc. And then there's the actual game.

Once you get into the swing of things, if you're playing another expansion/PW, may I suggest trying a battlemage. They're tricky, but they have loooooots of ways to kill stuff, and really get you thinking as to how to tackle difficult fights from multiple angles.  '<img'>
