Problems Defeating Huerodis
« on: May 27, 2012, 11:26:00 pm »

Does anybody have any tips to defeat Huerodis. I'm finding it very difficult to beat her despite wearing a necklace of Protection +4, a ring of magical defences and a mirrored shield. She keeps frightening me or otherwise hampering my progress destroying the mythallars.

I'm playing a level 13 fighter with Xanos as my companion.

You've sort of answered your own question to certain extent... destroy the mythallar.  That's where she gets her recuperative power and is almost imposiibel to kill otherwise.

As for that fearing, yes, that is problem for low Will classes like fighters and barbarians if you leveled Xanos primarily as one.  Problem is;  by this point all you have left for merchant is the shadow guy and I don't think he sells Owl's Wisdom or anything that will boost your Will saves (edit: just checked his store. no potions but does have alchemist's fire, acid flasks & holy water, all of which will hurt that b*tch, for a fee).  That means you will need to keep moving away from her and smash the conduit wherever you can, trying to trap it into a small section, then womp it.

Your level is not bad, really.  14 is normal.

Dunno if this helps but she is subject to fire, acid & sonic damage and needs +1 or better weapon to cut through her DR whichb has high soak.  Also, being undead race, she is immune to crits so figure on a long process without spells.

Did you save the Desert Fury weapon?  That shoudl help A LOT against her.

edit: oops... just remembered that the Wise Wind can cast Owl's Wisdom 1/day so set up your shadow door and rest there if she dispels you.  Also, the dark Wind will cast either Mage Armor to help your AC or summon a shadow to divert her attention.  You could use the Dead Wind's skel summon but only 1 summon will stay at a time.

Oops! I forgot to bring the 3 winds along with me when I opened the door to the temple. Hope I don't end up having to do the temple section all over again from the beginning.

Yes, I am armed with the desert fury weapon. It's the only decent one-handed weapon I have (to use with the mirrored shield).

One of the things I didn't consider was wisdom boosts so I will see what I have in that department.

Question, where do I find the shadow merchant? I've tried using the portable door to teleport back to the shadow lich's lair but found it completely empty.

Well, I didn't think there was a sequence prereq but after killing the shadow lich, the next time you use the door, the merchant will be there to offer services after a short convo about you being his new master.  Make sure to walk around to the other side of the area because that is where he hangs out...  near the chests in the corner IIRC.  If he never appears, then either there is a rigid sequence that requires you to visit before entering the Wind tower or your game gliched.

Actually, those Wind items are very handy so that could handicap a non-magic user big time.  I've found Deekin is the best companion for a fighter because his buffs can make a big difference in tough battles.  But Xanos should do fine as well and I've used him several times for his Find Traps spell and meat shield.

I usually stock up with all I can carry before entering that tower since the shadow guy doesn't sell all that much. But he does give great bargains when he buys your extra junk. '<img'>

And be sure to set up that shadow door the moment you entire her lair so you & Xanos can run back through to rest and heal, if needed.
