Problem with Dorna
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:27:19 am »

               I've noticed that Dorna Trapspringer will no longer disarm traps or unlock doors or chests. Also she does not heal herself. I have given her several healing potions and a couple healing kits. Any suggestions?
Thanks

               Is this another Tony K AI question?  If so, there may be a command to instruct her to heal or not.  Dunno.  But you at least want to check if you commanded her to stop casting cleric spells since that is what a cleric may use instead of potions.

Otherwise, the two things that come to mind are skills and multiclassing.

IIRC she will multi to a cleric unless you instruct her to do otherwise. That could be one reason she isn't gaining her rogue skills fast enough.

Check her Disarm and Unlock skills.  If they are especially low, that could be the reason she is encountering traps/locks that she can't handle (check the wiki to get an idea of typical trap/lock DCs).  For some reason, the rogue henchfolk are clairvoyant and seem to know the DC of all the traps and locks and won't even attempt those beyond their skill level.  Try keeping her buffed with Fox's Cunning and Cat's Grace when entering trapped/locked areas.  Also, if you find any items that boost either the skills directly or the abilities (Dex/Int), try equipping her with those.  Be aware, that at least as far as Dex goes, the armor may limit her skill depending on how heavy it is and how much Dex she has (max dex level).  So perhaps try some lighter armor.

So, to summarize: limit cleric levels, increase Dex and Int as high as you can and try to find or buy rogue skill items for her to wear. Then just be kind to her '<img'>

               nah.. it's a "biobug".  it happens only when you allow her to level equally in both rogue and cleric.  In order to prevent this, either tell her to focus on being a thief from the moment you pick her up as a henchmen, or let her pick up cleric and then tell her to focus on that.  I know it's dumb, but you can have either or, just not both.  it's been there for since v1.67 i believe.  happens to me a lot, which usually keeps me from taking her along....Besides, more often then not, i need a cleric more then i do a greedy theif.   Tony K's AI would most definitely fix that. . .or should at least. *shrugs* haven't played SoU with it yet so i'm not sure.

 All the trap/lock DC's in SoU are pretty low anyway. basically by taking 5 ranks of each and skill focus on both and you should be able to handle everything yourself(assuming you remember to grab the "gloves of the rogue" from the gnoll cave).  I usually take human as a race for that reason:taking skill focus: open lock and disable trap at lvl 1.

               Her Disarm and Unlock skills stop at about 32 after ch1. I used Tony K AI hak and it doesn't matter weather or not I have the remain a Rogue.32 is her max.

               I never played with her because of that bug, and I thank you, Muric, for finally lighting up the shade on that shamefull bioware failure. ':devil:'
That's probably the only one, so 'better making the best use of it...

And no, it's not another Tony K's bug, 'talking specifically to some "anti TK" bear of my knowledge and friendship... if you see who I mean... and how mean he is...

               @jml
too bad we aren't lucky enough for Bioware to sneak us one last patch that fixes that and the broken sleep spell (it was broken with patch 1.69)...probably would be a relatively small fix too.

@Weston
like i said...the checks are so low in this expansion it hardly matters.  just hand her the gloves of the rogue and she'll be able to handle everything(if leveled purely as rogue).  I don't recall seeing a check higher then 30-33 anyway.  her bigger problem however is her search skill.   she usually steps on every trap before attempting to disarm them anyway, lol.  it also doesn't help that, while traveling, the game likes to move your henchmen directly in front of you; thus tripping the trap you were trying to approach/disarm before your party got there.

the Highest level you'll reach in this campaign is.. 10-12?  sounds right.   i'm playing through it right now. Just got ahold of the erf that lets you take Mischa as a companion, otherwise i wouldn't bother, as i don't care much for the story.  she's kind of a whiner in part 1 ain't she?  she threw a fit when i took the supplies out of her chest...which i had fully intended on giving directly to her. . .well i planned on tossing the practice sword in the grinder with a quartz first out of curtisy..her longsword sucks.  :innocent:

Ahhh.. yes.  That's really the key to traps.  You can't disarm them if you can't spot them.  Silly me.  I have the same problem in HotU (off-topic, sry) with my roguish PCs.  The Search skill is checked on heartbeat so if you force her to do some standing and looking, eventually the Search check will succeed, but it may take a l-o-o-o-n-g time.  And Search is another of those Int skills so send her to school.'<img'>

It's great to see the bug documented on the new boards.  Nice job, Muric!

BTW, it this just a bug in SoU or does Tomi suffer the same indignation in the OC?

@jml: You know there's no anti bias on my part. I'm just a virgin and proud of it!'<img'>

               as far as i recall, Tomi has always been ok about it.  sometimes you have to tell him to handle the trap when you see it, if you see it before he does.  Don't know about with the latest patch however, as i've not played the OC since just after v1.68 was released. i almost always take a rogue level or two in the OC anyway so i don't use tomi much after Chapter 1.
  suppose that's one of the nice things about Tony K's AI...he'll automatically switch to detect mode when he's not in combat.  who knows... perhaps dorna will do it as well *shrugs* i'll look into that since i have two override folders, one with and one without Tony K's AI.
  Lord Sulivan's Override manager is nice for switching between the two, by the way.  mind you it's a pre-release, but it works very well considering.

               I had an occasional problem with Dorna not disarming or opening, but I could always force her to do it by accessing her radial menu and clicking "handle trap" or "handle lock".

My experience was that the traps would outlevel her ability really fast if she didn't concentrate on rogue. I always give her one level of cleric so she can use shields and armor, and that one lost level of rogue made her fail her check against the hardest traps throughout the game.

Anyway, my experience as I play through other mods with other rogue henchies is that auto-disarm stops working kind of regularly. I use the radial commands frequently.

Also, if you're having trouble with henchies running into or through traps before you can get them disarmed, try the "Hold" command. I always keep it on my quickbar - it saves a load of trouble with "D'oh! Stop being so stupid!" moments.

               I mostly play Sorc. By the time Dorna stops disarming traps I have 'Find Traps' spell.
