Not sure if this is the right place for this, but is anyone else having trouble connecting to the NW Vault site? I have tried at work and home and after taking forever for the main page to load, anything i click on to download times out.
![Posted Image](/web/20160803213012im_/http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png)
I can't even get to the forums there. Anyone else?
Thanks!

No problems here from the eastern US though haven't tried DLing anything. If it's not just a routing issue, check your security utilities settings. Detector software can sometimes time out if they interpret certain conditions as hazardous.
-
No problems from germany, either.
-
Problems in France, but nothing related to NWN or the vault.
Just the usual french stuff.

I also have problems with NWVault. I just finished new version of my unofficial patch and wanted to add new files/update old files on my page. It wrote some error :/.

I've no problems either from the UK. There was a sticky up for a few days ShaDoOoW announcing that the upload problem was now fixed. If you keep having trouble uploading new files, try mailing BTP to let him know. Perhaps something has gone skewiff again
-
Off and on today and the files I uploaded a week and a half ago are still not posted.
-
Queensilverwing: I then tried to upload my files on nwvault ftp, most of them were bigger than 25mb anyway and emailed BeyondThePale (via nwvault email feature ofc) but no response.
Also today I posted new stuff and was able to upload it from web but the submission is not yet approved. Whats going on?
-
I noticed a very slow connection to the Vault. Something is definitely going on.
-
No problems here (Argentina)
-
@ShaDoOoW - I'm not sure, but I'll mail Maximus and BTP to let them know there are problems. Files uploaded a week and a half ago Birdman076 and still not approved? That isn't like the Vault or BTP. I'll let you know when I hear anything.
-
Well last update at vault is 2days ago. And last at least 7 updates are no new files...
-
Thank you for looking into this, Queensilverwing!

Problems with the nwvault.ign.com have been persistent for quite some time now...
Errors with login are rather frequent, so to alleviate the issues I have to reset my password (a lot)..
Content unable to be uploaded &/or updated even was an issues that is becoming reoccurring, and is even now as I write, is currently an issues...
There are quite a few issues with the nwvault that the admin's need to address, but more importantly, I'd like to see the content that is ON the nwvault remain uncorrupted. People are starting to complain that content is becoming lost, corrupted, or unopenable...
I'm suspecting they are having read/write issues to their storage mediums, whatever those may be...
It may be time to transfer data, while you still can, to a new storage medium to preserve data...
I couldn't imagine trying to restore all that data from backups, whoosh!

Uploaded on the 25th, status "To Publish" still. I emailed Maximus but I don't expect a response till tomorrow or the next day with holiday weekend and all. I'm not worried, there hasn't been a time someone hasn't gotten back to me.
Also noticed the missing votes post on the main page has been the same for like 2-3 days, took the last one 2-3 days to cycle as well.

I have often found that email feature unreliable. Better to email btp directly from your email client I have found.
Good Luck

Maximus got back to me..
Things should be working properly now. If you get any more issues please let us know.
As shia said, emailing them directly from your e-mail client is best, the Vault e-mail appears to often be unreliable.

Not to mention the amount of spambots ruining the comments. The Vault is getting on a bit, computers and stuff like that tend to get iffy as they get older.

I believe the Vault have been in the process of moving their data server, which may include all the IGN sites, not just the Vault. This you can imagine, is a huge task and there are bound to be some issues while it's all getting sorted out. I wouldn't worry about the loss of info/files as I'm pretty sure the Vault always have a current backup of everything NWVault wise.
Give them time folks, the Vault has never really let us down in all these years, we need to show a little faith in their continuing support

Hello QSW.
Is this from the horses mouth, so to speak. I have had trouble with BTP's email account so I was getting quite concerned that there might be more serious problems.
There is a thread on the NWN2 board on this so I will link them back to here.

Hey PJ,
BTP put a sticky up on the Vault yesterday I believe stating that he was having some e-mail problems, but hoped to get it sorted out asap. As for the moving to a new data server, yes that's from Maximus himself. I'd mailed him to alert him to the fact that people were having trouble with downloads and mail not being answered. In our last mail a few days ago, he hoped that everything should be working properly by now.
If you find that it is not and you also don't get a response to an e-mail within 24 hours, (please use your own e-mail client to send the mail) post here and I'll contact him on an alternative mail I have.

I've been trying email now since the 27th of last month or so, i've emailed Maximus and BTP both are being delayed for 2-5 days and then fail to go through. I've tried this on multiple email clients and from multiple computers at home, work, and phone and get the same results. They really need to get with thier provider and fix the email issues, its been quite some time now and I'm sure people are being off put and we are losing content and people who would otherwise use the vault. Or at the very least post a secondary valid working email address as a temporary solution.

It would really help if either one of them would join this thread...

NWVault has essentially been dead since August 15th (the last time anything was added), with the exception of what I assume are automated posts of the lists for voting.
As an in-demand site, this is a huge amount of down time unless there isn't something else going on.
-
I agree. It's really a downer, especially when some have new content to upload. Visiting daily is becoming less and less of a priority.
FP!
-
Some of us over at NWN2 are getting a little antsy. We're worried this may be hearalding the closing of the vault. Can anyone speak to that? It's been "broken" for almost a month.

We have had some technical difficulties as the data centers have been transferred. Currently I am unable to get e-mail, and unable to process most of the entries supplied by the community.
The techs are working on the issue. I am unfortunately in a holding pattern until this is resolved. I appreciate everyone's patience, and I will do my best to get everything smoothed out once I am able.

I haven't been able to login or reset my password for quite some time now on the nwvault (over a week and half for sure), all emails have gone unanswered for quite some time too...
My first thought was I bet they got hacked and the haxorz probably did some damage to them...
But these problems have been persistent over a long time now..

On the bright side, when the issues get resolved, we should see a lot of new content going up in a fairly short period of time - all the things submitted while stuff wasn't working.

That is your perogative of course _Guile, but I can't help but get the feeling that whenever the Vault is mentioned, you seem to push a negative view of it on these boards. If megaupload works for you, great, nothing wrong in that.
For a great many of us though, the Vault has been our home for 9 years, and in all those years, while there may have been a few problems within the community, the Vault has been a reliable source for NWN1 & 2.
Personally, I'm happy to wait for however long it takes the Vault to get fixed, because I know that they have supported us all these years and it has to date, the largest file base for NWN1 & (likely) NWN2 mods and custom content.
-
*applauds Queensilverwing*
The Vault is such a critical resource for NWN, that it would kill NWN if it disappeared.
The loss would totally overshadow the loss that the Legacy forum has brought. Imagine the loss of all that content *shudders*
As such, and due to it being offered to us for free (absolutely no charge, whatsoever) it is wholly in our self-interests to support it, in any fashion that we are able to.
-
I agree with QSW, and Web. The vault is worth the wait. I have also posted on other topics in the past, that if it isn't on the vault, I don't download it. I don't feel I am the only one who does this. Is the Vault perfect, no. But it is time tested.
-
Couldn't have said it better myself Q. The Vault is awesome. I am endlessly grateful to BTP, Maximus, etc. for all the years of totally free gaming hosted on the site. Perfect? No, but what the heck is?
The day the Vault is no more will be a sad, sad day indeed.

There is only one question left in my mind..
Will Neverwinter Nights still survive if the nwvault.ign.com went down (for whatever reason)?
That's a question that everyone should look at, not to be skeptic or cynical, but prepared for the worst...
For in life, one can only hope for the best, but should always expect the worst, really...

The vault is paid for by the revenue from the advertisments on it (including the really annoying re-direct ones) so it will most likely be supported as long as enough people visit the site. A harsh fact of economic life I know but there we have it. I am getting Vault withdrawal symptoms though...
-
No, NWN would not survive.
The loss of all that CC..it would kill the game. There would be absolutely no hope of regaining it - there is simply far too much. We are talking literally of YEARS of added content, by hundreds, if not thousands, of contributors.
The loss would be fatal.

As Borden has said, the Vault or IGN, rely upon advertising, of which there is no short supply! The NWVault has in the past been (and may well still be) the busiest of all the game Vaults.
I see no reason why it would be going anywhere for a very long time. IGN appear to be a strong company. The problems encountered at this time indicate this to be the case, they are moving to a new data server. It is likely they need more space because of their growing business.
As Web says, if there were no NWVault, there'd be be no NWN - it is the custom content and modules by the community that make NWN (1 & 2) what it is today.
However, I have no worries or fears concerning the NWVault .

What does he mean by: "We are still chasing down the kobolds in the Vault," ???

Replace the word "kobolds" with the word "bugs".
Server migrations are always messy, but especially so when you try to move dynamic content off a really old server onto a really new one.

Dynamic content...
LOL!

Laugh if you want, Guile. But in 1999 when the vault network was merged under IGN (then Snowball) it was cutting edge. Now... not so much. And therin lies the rub. It's hard to get an obsolete CMS to run on modern hardware, but it's even harder to try to manually migrate tens of thousands of files, comments, ratings, and users into a whole new one.

Shame it is still a heap of mostly non-current information...
Also that it constantly switches to NWN2 is irritating...
I will try to contact them and see if I can help...
Especially the PW's listed, most of them are waaaaay offline....
...but there are other sections that need manual editing...
Also the list to the right with "top scripts" and so on...it still doesn't show the top ones...maybe its latest ones or something...
-
@_Guile - I've sent a mail off to BTP with a copy of your profile url. I've explained that your password needs resetting. It is likely that he is up to his eyes in mails and Vault gremlins. Hopefully his mail is working and you should get a PW reset through the mail from him soon.
